While the title says it all, I thought a goodbye was in order.

While I've been a FReeper for well over a decade, I must declare that it is time to part ways. While I have the greatest respect for a great many of you, the days where I can in good conscience remain silent about the issues that set me apart from the rest of FReeperdom have past. For clarity, or perhaps catharsis, I'm not entirely certain which, I'll lay them out on the table an call the ZOT™ down upon myself.

The racism: I just can't handle it anymore. FR has become increasingly racist since President Obama took office, and enforcement has dropped. Now, not a single crime can be reported with an "amish" comment, and I've yet to see a post express embarrassment or shame when lo and behold sometimes the perpetrators turned out to be lily white.

Homosexuality: FR is on the wrong side of history on this one, and I'll just leave it at that.

Mostly though, it's the hate. More and more posts reference violent solutions to political disagreements. Some subtly couched, others make no pretense. I wouldn't be surprised at all if I read in the morning paper that a FReeper murdered a federal bureaucrat or a federal judge.

I've learned so much, from so many of you, and for that I'm grateful. I genuinely and truly wish all of you well, and sincerely hope you all live out the rest of your lives in happiness.

I think we must all accept that we are different in some ways but I think we all want the same general thing.

I have no problem with differences in opinion or lifestyle at all. Your fear of an American Taliban is just not realistic though and that's my opinion. I don't think I have ever seen anyone even advocate it.

As for the OP and some his supporters here it's more than a difference of opinion. They don't want the same general thing and they're dishonest about that as well as their comments about this forum.

Racism, Ethnocentrism

I have a few pet peeves in that department, such as the use of "gender" when "sex" should be used, but that is becoming a lost cause. Another pet peeve is the use of "prequel" for antecedent or precursor--I write the word "prequel" about as often as I cite Wikipedia as a resource. I am also annoyed at the use of "they" and "their" as the singular indeterminate pronoun--"from each according to their ability, to each according to their needs" grates on my ears. But that's yet another lost cause.

Since "Lexus" is probably a made-up word, the plural would most likely be "Lexuses." However, that word is difficult to find. Those referring to more than one Lexus usually write, "Lexus cars," Lexus models," etc.

The closest word in Latin is "lex," meaning law, and the plural is "leges."

I share your pet peeves, oh yes, I do. I say “Lexi” for two or more Lexuses, just as it was a habit of DEC professionals of yesteryear to pluralize the computer name VAX as “Vaxen”.

Everything I mentioned there is stuff I’ve seen. I’ve been here for years.

For one thing, people who don’t exhibit the behavior I was talking about were not my target, so right there I’m not indicting everybody on FR. For another, none of it is a lie, I’ve seen that stuff a lot, and often (but not always) gotten into debates over it. Feel free to peruse my forum history if you’re really bored.
