I think that someone could really prank the DHS by announcing a “discreet sale” of a large number of “superior” guns, far better than anything the federal police have, that are for sale *only* to known “responsible” citizens; but under no circumstances, either the guns or their ammo will be sold, given, or turned over to the government.
It would drive the DHS and several other agencies nuts to think that “common people” now have guns better than their guns. And not just better, but “science fiction-y” better.
Of course, the actual specifications of these guns would not be given, just implying that it is something the feds just cannot have, at any price.
They would lose their collective marbles.

There is a loophole in the law prohibiting civilian possession of new machineguns: get a government agency to authorize the transfer/purchase, and it’s legal. The BATFE won’t admit it, and refuses all FOIA requests, but word is there are a number of such legal owners.
