Reading the article, it seems that the actual “rape” wasn’t mentioned in the story. It says the selkie had five children with the man, but not that she was “repeatedly raped”, though I agree that could be a view of what happened. I read this story as a kid, and didn’t think rape, personally. Anyway, to me, old folk tales are more interesting than some high-minded social equality pap.

They are. I got hold of a volume back in High School and was amazed at how different they were from the usual pap I had be exposed to.
