Newsweek Trolls The Nation: Hillary Clinton ‘Most Powerful Woman In American History’
Mediaite ^ | February 1, 2013 | Noah Rothman

Continuing their less-than-estimable tradition of publishing cover stories based on premises that range from the debatable to downright laughable, the onetime print magazine Newsweek trolled the nation again on Friday when they declared Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is “the most powerful woman in American history.”

The argument Newsweek makes when declaring Clinton the “most powerful woman” in America’s 225 plus years of existence rests primarily on her sky-high popularity and her decades of service in government.

Though Clinton is popular, the author, Michael Tomasky, notes that “Not everyone is in on this love-fest.”

[E]ven the seething hatred has, over the years, embroidered her legend—debates about Clinton have somehow always ended up really being about us as a nation, who we are and who we want to be, in such a way that even those who dislike her are implicitly acknowledging that, yes, she is the touchstone.

Tomasky cedes the point that other “modern women” in American history have occupied positions of influence. He lists Eleanor Roosevelt, Elizabeth Candy Stanton, Susan B. Anthony, Lucretia Mott, Gloria Steinem, and Phyllis Schlafly as examples of powerful women who altered the course of American history in some form...

She was sworn-in as a US Senator from New York in 2001 and left the state deparment today. That's "decades" Noah? Sounds more like 12 years to me. What other service are you referring to? First Lady isn't a government office, neither is wife of a state governor.

Hillary the most powerful woman in American History? You sure don’t know your history. She doesn’t hold a candle to Eleanor Roosevelt! (Another liberal, Democrat)

Now we know what it gets to be a “powerful” woman...cover up the messes of a powerful man. She’s done that for two presidents so far. So I guess by those standards, perhaps she does qualify.

This has been orchestrated for 20 years...

Back when Hitlery was in the White Hut, what passed for Big Media at the time used to rave about her and Eleanor, who at that time used to be considered one of the big “great” women of this country.

Heil to the B***h of Banghazi. Hussein’s b***h.

Sandra Day O’Connor? (Or Justices Ginsburg, Kagan or Sotomayor?)

Harriet Beecher Stowe? (But that’s “influence,” not “power.”)

Barbara Dianne Boxer-Feinstein?

Phyllis Schlafly, Edith Wilson and Sarah Palin would all be much more powerful than Hillary Clinton.

Let’s call a spade a spade. Neither Eleanor nor Hillary were “liberal” about anything. Both were committed communists trying, with their husbands, to change the United States into a socialist/communist worker’s paradise.

Hillary messed up on her 3:00am phone call from Benghazi.

Actually, she missed all of her phone calls for help from Ambassador Stevens in Benghazi.

She’s just another collectivist fabian communist globalist liar.

Watch for all of the gaslighting (mind control) statements coming from government media, eg., Hillary Clinton ‘Most Powerful Woman In American History’; the borders are secured; we don’t have a spending problem, etc.

These statements are designed to resonate in the minds of the uninformed voters.

Paris Hilton influenced way more people than the Beast.
And she didn’t blame a video for anything (except for making her more successful).

Hillary Clinton is a humorless, bolshevik, feminist who would be only slightly less destructive to our nation than our current President if we would be so unfortunate to ever have her elected to that office.

The Hillary Rodham Claims to Fame:

Rudely addressed a U.S. Senator at Wellesley Commencement Speech.

Worked as a lawyer on Watergate committee and wrote a document in which President Nixon would not be allowed legal representation at his impeachment hearing. One lawyer close to the situation said that she should never, ever again have a position of responsibility.

Became good buddies with the Black Panthers.

Married a guy in order to hold his coattails as he advanced in politics.

Turned her eyes when he had affairs with loads of other women.

Told a women that her husband had raped that she should just keep quiet about it.

Wrote five executive orders extending abortion-on-demand for her husband which he dutifully signed, on their very first day as president.

Began a push for national healthcare and worked it in secret, without input from anyone outside her circle of friends.

Need I go on?

Again, exactly what makes Hillary Rodham the "Most Powerful Woman in American History"?

It must be the mesmerizing crotch:

Did he mention the FBI files she had illegally gained access to in order to run the blackmail operation against key congresscritters? The insider trading? Her coddling terrorists? Her gross incompetence as Sec'y of State? Her sham marriage? Her getting her oversized ass handed to her in 2008 by Zero with plenty of help from Partisan Media Shills just like him? Didn't think so.

@5. Pogo, you’re absolutely right. As long as we are not talking about who has had the most *influence*, we can put aside Oprah, Stowe and the like. (Yes, influence is a type of power, but indirectly so.)

If we’re talking about wielding raw, actual power in U.S. history, News-squeak might actually not be terribly far off the mark — but still off. I’d propose these rankings:

1. Pelosi, as austinaero says.
2. Barbara Dianne Boxer-Feinstein, as you say.
3. Sandra Day O’Connor, Ginsburg, Kagan and Sotomayor, as you say, too.
4. Hillary.
5. Eleanor Roosevelt (couldn’t legislate in her own name; plenty of power otherwise, but not as much as the women above).

Honorable mention to Mrs. Woodrow Wilson, for serving as sort of de facto president of the United States during Wilson’s incapacity.
