Nearly fifty years later, the picture is even more grim—and the statistics can no longer be organized neatly by race. In fact, Moynihan’s bracing profile of the collapsing black family in the 1960s looks remarkably similar to a profile of the average white family today. White households have similar—or worse—statistics of divorce, unwed childbearing, and single motherhood as the black households cited by Moynihan in his report. In 2000, the percentage of white children living with a single parent was identical to the percentage of black children living with a single parent in 1960: 22 percent.

While the Moynihan report focused on disparities between white and black, increasingly it is class, and not just race, that matters for family structure. Although blacks as a group are still less likely to marry than whites, gaps in family formation patterns by class have increased for both races, with the sharpest declines in marriage rates occurring among the least educated of both races. .....
These differences in family formation are a problem not only for those concerned with “family values” per se, but also for those concerned with upward mobility in a society that values equal opportunity for its children. ...

Attended my RCIA class last night (I’m a team member but learning more than I can share) and the class was given by this wonderful couple who spoke about various Catholic beliefs regarding sexuality and marriage. After listening I would say it all boils down to the evil of contraception. NFP is so specific now that it has 98% accuracy and instead of using artificial chemicals and devices, it requires the couple to intentionally choose each time that they desire sex whether they want to have a child. The wife, when asked why it was that it seems that NFP couples do have more children, she said it was because the love and joy was so great in the relationship that they were so prolife and probaby that they had more children. She said that each of their four children were intentional. She also said that chemical contraception was actually a type of abortion since among other things, it renders the womb less receptive to implantation so that even if an egg slips by and is fertilized, it can implant or it does so imperfectly and then is miscarried. Just saying. It was interesting. Perhaps I can be more open to this at 64 than I was at 34.

Our American version of Western Civilization has been under tremendous assault for the last 100 years(Started during Wilson’s time.)For the last 5 years the popular media has glorified the nonwhite. One sees lower class whites mimicking those that are held up to them as “models.” For example, pants so low they show the buttocks, rap music, the baseball cap turned backwards, negro speach patterns etc. Naturly these whites will adopt the mores of the dominant nonwhite culture.
It was the hippie/university left that wanted to inflict “free love” and the “sexual revolution” on society, without a care what it would do to the lower middle class and the poor.
Nothing more disgusting than “rap” or “skateboard” culture. I get so sick of seeing these losers standing around with low pants and dirty hair and I mean all races. That said,I never understood why white boys thought it was cool to emulate that lower gangsta life style.

Obama = “Equal Opportunity” poster child, completely empty of substance. Not saying all college graduate blacks are like him, but it's enough to case some shadow of a doubt.
Only large corporation/government entities need to maintain their racial ‘equal employment opportunity’ quota, not when you are a small business owner hiring.

Although my experiences may not be representative, the young Hispanics I’ve encountered still seem to be very marriage-family oriented. Needless to say, these are not gangbanger types, but are not especially well educated and certainly not well off either.
No, increasingly (in fact, almost always) it is family structure that matters for "class." Economic security and social mobility are effects of the personal behavior choices that coincide with stable marriage and responsible child-rearing.

If you’re in the business of persuading people to part with more taxpayer dollars, you can state a fact like “the family structure of lower class Negroes is highly unstable, and in many urban centers is approaching complete breakdown” and get away with it. Might even get praise as a ‘Vocal Advocate.”
If you make the same statement but are not advocating tossing taxpayer dollars at the problem, you are just a racist.
Interesting. Same statement, same fact. But different reaction to the messenger.
Do we have statistics showing these young Hispanics becoming middle-aged middle class, with about the same upwards mobility opportunity as their counter part ‘whites’?
If any research study showed such statistics then politicians can not make their case about ‘racial inequality’ specifically, or ‘class inequality’ in general.
Blacks voted for obammy in record numbers.

That’s actually quite a deep statement.
Liberals should be celebrating their success in bringing whitey’s cultural and economic status down into closer quota equality with Blacks in the inner cities.
Working class Americans of all races are up the creek. Pitiful education systems, globalism and immigration for skilled and unskilled labor promises we are looking at a future like every other third world/communist nation. We won’t have a middle class. We will be one big unemployed, on the dole, uneducated, valueless gutter ghetto - in equality.
