What Bush email hacker faces: The Palin Precedent

A year behind bars: That's what David Kernell received for guessing his way into the private email account of vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin in 2008. So that would certainly be the starting point for penalties due the perpetrator of this latest invasion of privacy against the politically powerful.

From a lengthy account by The Smoking Gun (that includes private Bush family photos and information, if you'd rather not be party to seeing that stuff):

The apparent hack of several e-mail accounts has exposed personal photos and sensitive correspondence from members of the Bush family, including both former U.S. presidents, The Smoking Gun has learned.

The photos and e-mails were uploaded yesterday to an online account that appears to have been hacked for the purpose of hosting the material.

In e-mail exchanges with the person who claimed responsibility for the hack, the individual claimed to have swiped "a lot of stuff," including "interesting mails" about George H.W. Bush's recent hospitalization, "Bush 43," and other Bush family members.

Included in the hacked material is a confidential October 2012 list of home addresses, cell phone numbers, and e-mails for dozens of Bush family members, including both former presidents, their siblings, and their children. The posted photos and e-mails contain a watermark with the hacker's online alias, "Guccifer."(continued)

To embarrass and humiliate Republicans of course.

The hackers need to be locked up, but the idea that members of the Bush family use AOL Mail is frightening.

No worries, I'm fairly certain Bush will show the same tenacity in defending himself in this instance, that he did defending his presidency and the Republican Party. The man truly was an idiot.

“Compassionate Conservatism.” Pfft!

It’s amazing, these equalizers of the powerful never seem to have the cajones to get the truth out about Obama. If they really want a story and to be famous all they have to do is find and release the Monarchs school records or maybe some of his emails. But the truth is these people don’t have the courage.

I assume most hackers are in sympathy with the “progressive” coalition. Even if they aren’t, remember the Baraqqis were even able to intimidate the Clinton crime family, so the Chicago mob is feared universally.

I guess the hacker thought he'd embarrass the Bush family by publicizing that they were talking about funeral arrangements for 41, before he was even dead. What a silly man, that hacker. As sick as Poppy seemed to be, it would be amazing that they didn't consider the possibility that he may die soon, and with his having been President, there would have to be some sort of prior arrangements in order to be ready.

I don't find anything strange or disrespectful about their considering the possibility.

Each POTUS is supposed to leave instructions before he moves out of the White House about how he wants his funeral conducted. IIRC, Clinton is the only one who never did this. He may have done it following his heart episode.

Yes, they leave instructions, but those have to be re-visited from time to time, as other folks, who might have been in the plans, die or cannot participate for some reason.

Naturally, the list of invited dignitaries, the specific minister or singer, etc. might change, but not the big picture. I.e., if Pappy wanted a march down Constitution Ave/lying in state at the Capital/National Cathedral/burial at Arlington funeral (or any combination thereof) vs something more low key in TX (like Nixon did in CA). Adjustments would have to be made around the edges.

Eisenhower and Reagan had the good fortune to pass on and have their formal ceremonies in Spring vs. Ford who passed away after Christmas, so (IIRC) there was no funeral march down Constitution Ave. I suppose the Bush family would have had concerns when things weren’t looking too good for Pappy over the holidays. Sometimes I think Pappy is going to outlive Slick. The ceremonies for an ExPOTUS are rather elaborate and need thought and planning. It’s not like us common folk and the family has to think about all that.
