Purim celebrates the salvation of the Jews from the wicked Haman's scheme to exterminate all the Jewish men, women, and children living in the Persian empire, which essentially meant all the Jews in the world. On Purim we are obligated to hear the Book of Esther which recounts the Purim story and enjoy a festive meal. We are also required to give charity to the poor, send two food items to a friend, and get so drunk that we do not know the difference between Haman, the villain, and Mordechai, the righteous hero of the story? (This last commandment, I understand, is very rigorously kept in college dorms all year round.)

Chag Sameach Purim to all.
He knew he was Haman. But I'm not sure he got it, even then, that we was on the wrong side. I don't think Jimmy Carter or Barack Obama get that either.
We have a new Haman, today. Another Persian, Amahdinijad.
His last name is actually two words, Amahdi Nejad, correctly pronounced, Ah-MAH-dee Nee-JAD.
Amahdi Nejad, means “descendent of the most highly praised.”
The “Mahdi” is the Moslem prophet that has been hiding in a well (pit) for over 1000 years. According to Moslem eschatology, he will emerge from his hiding place in the last times to destroy the kaffir (infidels) and rule the world.
Compare with Revelation 9:11 and Revelation 17:8.
Don’t know if Amahdi Nejad is that particular demon, but he, at the very least, is looking forward to its emergence.
They taste so good to nosh!
And my costume's gonna wow them, I got such panache.
Can do, can do, sez this celebratory Jew...
My Purim spirit's high
Even if I stay "dry"
These days you gotta tell a Haman from a Mordechai.
Can do, can do, even without a drop of brew.
Although I'm havin' fun,
Must get some work here done,
I wish a freilichen Purim to everyone!
Can do, can do, my FR poesy debut!

Stays lucid and clear
My wordsmithing efforts
Will continue to cheer.
I attribute my talent
To He Whom we call

The Author of all.
