Report: El Chapo Killed In Guatemalan Shootout
Friends of Ours ^ | 02/22/13 | Friends of Ours

Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, the Forbes-listed billionaire who heads the Sinaloa cartel, may have died in a shootout with rival narcos in Guatemala's northern Peten province as reported by Sonia Perez for The Associated Press. However, it's still too early to pop the champagne, dance in the streets and celebrate with joy on the hopeful news because "officials stressed late Thursday that they had not yet found any bodies or even confirmed a shootout happened."

Guatemala is among the major transit points for cocaine smuggled from Colombia through Central America and Mexico before reaching crazed druggies in the United States.

Three cartels -- Sinaloa, Gulf and Los Zetas -- have entrenched footholds in the rural Peten province along the Mexican border.

Last year newly-elected Guatemalan President and former general Otto Perez Molina called in the troops in a desperate and probably futile bid to stave off the invasion from Mexican drug cartels.

If this is true, I am indeed saddened, for his thousands of victims that their families didn’t get their hands on him first.

Couldn't possibly have anything to do with the billions of coke and cash snatched in Chicago recently.

Ricky and Racky have done lit the Mexican Drug War fuse!

Mexicans shouldn't feel targeted though, as HSA will be gunning for everybody without regard to race.

Exactly. There will never be a time "to pop the champagne, dance in the streets and celebrate with joy" over the killing of a top drug lord - because every time a top drug lord has been removed, the practical result has been precisely squat. It's at most a photo-op ... like the smashing of barrels during Prohibition.

Yes, wack a mole!!!

I have been saying for a long time, if we can fly drones and kill people that are threats to our country in Pakastan and Yemen.....Why not fly drones and kill narcos that threaten our neighbors goverment causing a landslide of refugees illegally fleeing into our country? Once the narco-civil war has ended we as Americans can help repatriate the 15 million illegal narco-war refugees living amongst us that need to return home to there own culture and people.

There's no reason to believe that drones can whack the moles fast enough to make a difference in the War on Drugs. Technology will never overcome supply and demand.

Cartels are networks. Networks are about communication. The networks communication is how control is administered. Monitering communication is somewhat easy done, just like following money. If you know where the money goes, if you know who is controling the network, who does what in the network......It should be easy to make a kill list. Heck strip the list from knowen cartel leaders and shot callers, everyone knows who they are.
It’s the old issue about where do you draw the line between a day in court or today we can drone this guy. Drugs are see a a criminal enterprise.... Yet we have a WAR ON DRUGS, and druglords have a unholy hot war along our southern boarder causing tens of millions of illegal refugees to flood into our country. We have a WAR ON DRUGS an yet the hot war just south of our country is croupting and destroying our southern neighbors goverment. Isnt it time to act unlaterally and wipe out all mexican drug gang leaders using drones and NSA info?

I am sick and tired of folks acting like some reglious, dirty man and his 100 followers on the otherside of the world is a direct threat to our country. That our fine military needs all it bearing on these dirty religious people.....When at the same time drugs fill our streets, controlled by forgien gangs of illegals that enrich mexican cartels...Why dont we have the balls to waste big time threats... Killing AQs number 4 in Yeman is so weak!!! Go Big, Dream Big, Get big results.....Our War is in Mexico fulled by our own drug money. Our next war will be here fulled by money and industry we give to China. As we distract ourselfs with homosexual rights and gun control or the sequester that is meaningless....
Drone everyone to the south that has anything to do with drug cartels and networks.

There's also no reason to believe that the mole list can be updated fast enough to make a difference in the War on Drugs.

Lets try. Cast a big net on day 1. Dont go small, whack a mole has one or two mallets and you wait for heads to pop up. The targets wouldnt know hunting season was about to open on them..... Wack a mole is how we have been doing the war on drugs.

Go for a big body count on day one, if they say we can get ten targets....no good I want 200!

Drones werent where they are now today back in ‘98 we only had tomahawks. Then after 9/11 the bad guys knew to go to ground. The cartels must hide, but in a way that criminals hide....not like targeted terrorists hide. Wacking moles is good, we should start wacking.

None of what you posted is responsive to my point: There's also no reason to believe that the mole list can be updated fast enough to make a difference in the War on Drugs.
