IIRC Lucianne was zotted eons ago after an attempt to co-op FR to her will. She started a competing website called lucianne.com. Don’t know how it did.

funny, or not so funny, that the paranoia that Micheal Rivero posted doesn't seem so outlandish anymore...

TWA 800 and the Oklahoma bombing....who killed Foster....why did Ron Brown die in such a way?...

Yep, Willie thought mass rail transit was the greatest thing since sliced bread, along with unions and I suspect socialism. He posted one of his rail threads from the AFL-CIO website, he couldn’t have been very smart.

Here! Here!

Amazing how some people confuse “group think” with a people holding to a core set of values. Big difference, that. The first are mindless people who join a group and then adopt and adapt to their ideas because there goal is first and foremost to belong to a group...any group...just as long as they belong.

The latter are people who already have a core set of values and principles and who are usually content being on their own (part of the lack of unity among conservatives) who happen to come together and enjoy each others company and ideas and knowledge.

FreeRepublic is not a site for people who succumb to “group think.” We are a group of individuals who associate with one another because we happen to think alike.

The problem with TBL, LP and many of the other sites that have gone off on their own is they think they can succeed by being an open debate society. This is like running a successful bar by getting everyone drunk and opening the cash drawer. You can ‘debate’ on millions of sites on the web. What sets successful sites apart from failures like TBL is unification of purpose and goals. Everyone doesn’t have to agree, it would be impossible to all agree on everything, but if they are working towards a common goal, they will be successful.

TBL & LP just thought they could be successful by having JAF (Just Another Forum) where people can yell at each other with little or no vision or moderation. That is usually boring when you are sober and people get frustrated fast as soon as they think they can be doing better things.

I’ve seen a few spin off sites that have done well. DC focused on science discussions. GOPBR seems to focus on social media activism. Other than that, the rest seem to be just an excuse to yell at each other like a bunch of drunken Irish.

Yeah. It came to a head one weekend with him. I couldn’t abide with some of his ideas...I thought definitely a socialist in some respects.

I tried to have a real, honest to goodness, reasonable debate with him, but it descended into ad hominem.

One of the keywords on the “Ungghh!!” thread is “where’spetronski”. So where IS Petronski?

And reading those keywords is a blast.

“inbeforetheungghh”

I don’t remember that thread. I wonder where I was? I must have been deathly ill. :)

Uh huh. And when I objected to her about her using a site labeled “Free Republic Official on face book” for anti-freeping purposes, she said “bite me.” I think that pretty much ended our working relationship.

Lucianne has been a ghost town for years. It is too bad because she is really connected.

I stopped by there the other day when FR was down. It seems like it is mostly populated by conspiracy nuts and whackjobs.

Great post.

I see real discourse here. Most other places are the equivalent of people talking with nobody listening.

Hahaha...maybe that is part of the reason FR isn’t for everyone. Some people don’t really want people to analyze what they say. They just want to say it.

Personally, I have found FR invaluable in formulating and sharpening my viewpoints, because anytime you post something, it can be the equivalent of the analysis Dan Rather got with his fake but accurate documents. And it is one of the reasons I enjoy this site.

When a lot of people on here put their minds to analyzing an issue, the area under the bell curve of logical thinking gets expansive. Heh, it is those fringes that are two standard deviations to each side that can get both funny and bizarre, though...:)
