I understood the term “Arab Spring” also to be just a shorthand way of encapsulating the broad set of events, since after all the Copts in Egypt (Christian before the Arab Islamic invasion) and the Berbers in northern Africa (mostly Christian before the Arab Islamic invasions) are not Arabs either but were present in the geopolitical circumstances.

The "shorthand," tends to give the wrong information to the LIV (low information voters). Plus, from a geographical standpoint, Persia really is the "Near East."
