Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid witnessed the defection of several Democrats up for reelection in 2014 during the politically charged votes to replace the sequestration cuts set to take effect Friday.

Three at-risk Senate Democrats - Mary Landrieu of Louisiana, Mark Pryor of Arkansas and Kay Hagan of North Carolina - all voted Thursday against proceeding to a Democratic measure that would raise taxes on millionaires, cut agriculture programs and cut defense in order to overhaul the $85 billion in sequestration cuts.

And when it came time to break a Democratic filibuster on a GOP plan to give President Barack Obama more authority to implement the cuts how he saw fit, two Democrats who who are up in 2014 - Max Baucus of Montana and Mark Warner of Virginia - both voted with the GOP.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) also lost nine of his GOP senators who voted against proceeding to the Republican bill. Those include the trio of hawkish senators known as the "Three Amigos" -- John McCain of Arizona, Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire -- as well as moderate Sen. Susan Collins, who is up for reelection in 2014. GOP Sens. Dean Heller of Nevada and Mike Lee of Utah also voted against advancing to the GOP plan, as did two potential 2016 candidates, Marco Rubio of Florida and Rand Paul of Kentucky.

While the premise of the first sentence is nonsense (Reid has no problem allowing democrats to protect their seats in a foregone conclusion vote), this is mighty interesting!

So it is the Demonrats that are filibustering the ability of Zero to cut within departments versus an across the board cut.

I didn’t realize Mark Pryor (D-AR) was considered at-risk.

Hopefully, he will join the former senator, Blanche Lincoln, in forced retirement.
