A Florida high school student wrestled a loaded gun away from another teen on the bus ride home this week and was slapped with a suspension in return.

The 16-year-old Cypress Lake High student in Fort Myers, Fla. told WFTX-TV there was “no doubt” he saved a life after grappling for the loaded .22 caliber revolver being aimed point-blank at another student on Tuesday.

“I think he was really going to shoot him right then and there,” said the suspended student, not identified by WFTX because of safety concerns. “Not taking no pity.”

This is normal procedure for the protection of the three students that wrestled the gun away. While thy may be heroes you can bet that friends or family members of the gunman will take exception to their actions and want to retaliate.

Every single school official involved in the matter of suspending the student(s) who took the gun away should be terminated following a hearing to establish participation in that process and then banned from public or private education for LIFE. No mercy. This stuff has to stop.

I can see a suspension until the facts are gone over, but if the kid saved a life he should later be rewarded and his record of suspension removed, and a letter of commendation placed in it’s stead.
