BUT, may I add a third group to this scenario?
For CENTURIES, charitable works were the purvue of Religious Organizations.
Jews had their Elder Homes, Burial Societies, Hospitals, and Settlement Houses.
Catholics had Hospitals, Nursing Homes, Adoption Agencies, “St. Vincent DePaul”, etc.
Protestants specialized in Soup Kitchens, Inner-City Missions, Shelters, Hospitals, and Nursing Homes.
Now these “Religious” Charities are being marginalized by by the left. Catholic Charities of Massachusetts has had to GIVE UP their Adoption Services because they refuse to place children with homosexual couples. Catholic Hospitals will have to close as they refuse to perform abortions. Other Catholic Charities Services will eventually have to fold because they will have to make a choice between that or provide contraceptives and abortions to their employees under Obamacare.
Recently, An Orthodox Jewish group was denied their traditional charitable giving to a food bank because the home-made Kosher food was not produced under “controlled conditions.”
And, just last year, when I tried to make a huge donation of furniture to the Salvation Army, the workers REFUSED my donation because there were a few stairs at the front door. They said that they weren’t allowed to take anything if there were stairs.
The Powers-That-Be meant to eviscerate ANY and ALL Charitable Giving that is not under their control. And if that “Giving” is motivated by Faith or Religious Altruism, it is so longer generated by “Pure” motives. The goal is to eliminate ALL humanitarian efforts that are not run by the government and paid for by the taxpayer.
so longer = NO longer!
I wish it were possible to edit after posting.
Similar circumstance with SA. Told them what we had to donate and that we needed a truck to come pick it up. No go. Some of the things they didn’t want/need. We found neighbors that could use most of it instead. Liability issues and fear of the litigious society we now find ourselves in, sometimes make it hard to be charitable. But we keep tryin’ anyway.
Just a chance to “give back”. Whatever the hell that means since “they” didn’t “give” to us in the first place.
Good (long) article be Dan though. I believe most of us on the conservative side of the fence understand this completely. It’s the radical left wing extermist demokkkrat scumbags who don’t get it and never will.
