Life At Conception Act Introduced By Senator Rand Paul

Senator and CPAC straw poll winner Rand Paul (R-KY) introduced the “Life at Conception Act” on Thursday afternoon. He then went to Twitter and tweeted the following:

According to Senator Paul, S 583 “does not amend or interpret the Constitution, but simply relies on the 14th Amendment, which specifically authorizes Congress to enforce its provisions.

From Section 1 of the 14th Amendment:

“No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.”

The Life at Conception Act legislatively declares what most Americans believe and what science has long known- that human life begins at the moment of conception, and therefore is entitled to legal protection from that point forward,” Sen. Paul said. “The right to life is guaranteed to all Americans in the Declaration of Independence and ensuring this is upheld is the Constitutional duty of all Members of Congress.”

The substance of the bill reads,

“To implement equal protection for the right to life of each born and preborn human person, and pursuant to the duty and authority of the Congress, including Congress’ power under article I, section 8, to make necessary and proper laws, and Congress’ power under section 5 of the 14th article of amendment to the Constitution of the United States, the Congress hereby declares that the right to life guaranteed by the Constitution is vested in each human being. Nothing in this Act shall be construed to require the prosecution of any woman for the death of her unborn child.”

Thank you - I reall got lost on pinging for a while. Got horrible flu in Dec/Jan, then a reprieve, than a month ago got hit with another horrible virus, and each time that happens all my other stuff gets piled up so high and deep I have no time...

I will ping this out. Good news is hard to find nowadays.

I think abortion should mostly be illegal, but if life begins at conception, is a fertilized egg in a test tube a human life?

If a nurse drops the test tube, is that manslaughter?

If a mother has a fetus with no head, should she be forced to deliver it?

This is basically the same bill his father and others always put out, Sanctity of Life Act, that was never supported by other Republicans.

Yes.. Paul is like having a Freeper in Congress. He wasn’t a politician first, he was an American first. This notion of his, that there must be “due process” before a life is ended, and that this “due process” is properly enforced at the federal level if the States refuse, is a perfectly reasonable, well thought out proposal. Rand Paul is a force to be reckoned with.

Thanks for the ping Jim. I wish I could like this guy, but he’s flaky like his dad. I don’t trust him even when I agree with him. He hits the ball out of the park today with the likes of this act, but then he’ll turn around, and do something totally off-the-wall that makes his judgement questionable.

Agree. He's consistent on protecting individual liberties - even if the majority votes to infringe them.

I’m not sure that disclaimer would be enough to bring many women voters on board. I think the major step forward would be getting the votes for such bills, not creating them.

Rand Paul was on Glenn Beck's radio this AM...it is well worth everyone’s time to check out the transcript from Glenn's show where he has a great conversation with Rand on his plans.

The leftist media has been printing lies about what Rand Paul's plans are about, and he was there to straighten out the truth. Rand made his case and explained his plans to Glenn, with clarity.

I have great admiration for this man..his thinking is clear and he must be heard. He is fearless, strong and in your face to the left. He is NOT sitting on his azz. He is NOT interested in covering his azz. He IS a conservative, with a plan of action for the immigration situation, the economy, and he must be heard...the words must come from his lips, not from the leftist media. Refuse to read or listen to the leftist media in any form. Go to the SOURCE for your information.
