The Brits also have an expression "fag end" which refers to the loose end of a rope (and by extension, a cigarette) or the frayed end of an article of clothing. (It also has a figurative meaning of the end run of manufactured items, usually of poor quality.)

WWI doughboys’ song:

“Pack up your troubles in your old kit bag, and smile, smile, smile.

“While you’ve a lucifer to light your fag, smile, boys, that’s the style.

“What’s the use of worrying, it was never worth while,

“So, pack your troubles in your old kit bag and smile, smile, smile!”

I don’t know it it’s the same company as the baseball cap, but I know I have seen the building with its big sign for decades in Joplin, MO. I think I had a relative that worked there a long time ago. I think the FAG stood for something, but I don’t know what.
