Aboriginal Australian History Finally Resolved
DNA Consultants Blog ^ | October 8, 2011 | Blogger

We present an Aboriginal Australian genomic sequence obtained from a 100-year-old lock of hair donated by an Aboriginal man from southern Western Australia in the early 20th century. We detect no evidence of European admixture and estimate contamination levels to be below 0.5%. We show that Aboriginal Australians are descendants of an early human dispersal into eastern Asia, possibly 62,000 to 75,000 years ago. This dispersal is separate from the one that gave rise to modern Asians 25,000 to 38,000 years ago. We also find evidence of gene flow between populations of the two dispersal waves prior to the divergence of Native Americans from modern Asian ancestors. Our findings support the hypothesis that present-day Aboriginal Australians descend from the earliest humans to occupy Australia, likely representing one of the oldest continuous populations outside Africa.

Reconstruction of early spread of modern humans outside Africa. Note admixture between early dispersal (red) and second dispersal (black), as well as presence of archaic Denisovans in Asia. Science magazine.

Shows Caucasians have 100K years plus of separate genetic development from other African sub groups, and 38K years separate genetic development from Mongoloids.

At the same time the Chinese and Europeans each have a 5% identifiable background of the other ~ been a lot of movements back and forth, forth and back ~ much of it has to do with the human habit of swapping girls down the line ~ with adjacent tribes of course ~ friends!

The separation of the Sa'ami from the other Europeans is as long as 20,000 years, or as little as 7,000 years (until recent times of course).

There are other genetic isolates ~ one they're working on now are the folks in the Hebrides

Also, a correction ~ the people you identify as “Caucasion” are actually several different groups with known separations into various ice age refugia ~ one in the West (France/Spain), another on the Adriatic, another further East ~ and undoubtedly several others that’ve been all mixed up since the ice went away.

I believe it. My brother-in-law, Dennis, is definitely descended from the Denisovans.

It appears human populations respect the Wallace Line as well.

“Related populations suggested are hunger-gatherers”

Difficult to take an article seriously when they can’t even proof their own material.

Do you suppose they meant “hunter-gatherers”.

Hey! They forgot the Negritos!

"================== The Negrito are a class of several ethnic groups who inhabit isolated parts of Southeast Asia.[1] Ati children, the Philippines Their current populations include 12 Andamanese peoples of the Andaman Islands, six Semang peoples of Malaysia, the Mani of Thailand, and the Aeta, Agta, Ati, and 30 other peoples of the Philippines. Reports from British traders also speak of negrito people on Borneo (Sarawak). (Journal of the Malayan Branch Royal Asiatic Society, Vol. XXIX, part 1, 1956) Negritos are the most genetically distant human population from Africans at most loci studied thus far (except for MC1R, which codes for dark skin). They have also been shown to have separated early from Asians, suggesting that they are either surviving descendants of settlers from an early migration out of Africa, commonly referred to as the Proto-Australoids, or that they are descendants of one of the founder populations of modern humans.[2]" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Negrito

Thanks Rocky.

Extreme isolation causes genetic "island", no surprise. :')

Just adding to the catalog, not sending a general distribution.

To all -- please ping me to other topics which are appropriate for the GGG list.
