Look at it this way: McConnell backed him on the filibuster a couple of weeks ago - so it looks like Rand is impacting McConnell more than McConnell is impacting Rand. This is a good thing. This is progress.
And besides, do we know if a good candidate is in the offing in Kentucky anyway?

Oh, definitely. Mitch will find ways to obstruct Paul. But Paul also wields power, and his influence within the senate caucus may grow. For example, Paul could use his influence to force McConnell to put Tea Party types in the leadership as committee chairs/ranking members. It’ll be a thrust and parry political dance.
You need to stop taking the Santorum thing so personally. And I would suggest easing up on any attempts to force phony analogies where they do not apply. At this point, therer are many more differences between the two situations than similiarities....nothing is quite so misleading as a flawed analogy.
This is true...there’s no chance of McConnell switching parties while in office - so while he’s not great, his voting record is not awful and he is not nearly as dangerous as Specter, Jim Jeffords, Charlie Crist, Mike Castle, etc.....or even McCain or Graham.
Rand Paul supports “normalization” (amnesty) for illegal aliens.

I don’t mind McConnell remaining in the senate I would just prefer the republican caucus has a better leader. He has no fight in him, he’s boring to watch and to listen to. While on the other hand, a man like Paul, who also speaks slowly in that midwestern fasion (I’m a New Englander) was riveting to listen to.

Well I guess I’m not so crazy for Rand after all, if he’s going to Sing Along with Mitch, the spineless leader of the Rino’s.
Too bad - I was really starting to like him.
Santorum was a crusader for Specter and his causes, he was dedicated to the man.
You think that Santorum only endorsed Specter against Toomey for his 2004 race, dragging Specter across the finish line with a less than 2% victory, but the truth is that Santorum was supporting Specter for 2010 as well and fighting Toomey until the end, all the way until Specter finally became a democrat and returned Santorum's $5,000.00 dollar, 2010 donation.
Santorum had started his Specter life with endorsing and campaigning for Specter's 1996 presidential run, to remove the pro-life plank from the republican platform.
"This" is an election. As Exhibits A and B, I give you the esteemed Senators McCain and Hatch, who conveniently rediscovered their conservatism just in time to use it to get re-elected. You can throw in Lindsey Graham as well.
Let's be honest. McConnell and Graham richly deserve primary challenges from their right.

It is March 2013 - hardly “right before” an election.
Now you may end up being right in the end, but this is NOT analogous in the way you present it vis a vis McCain and Graham. The fact is McConnell was supportive of Rand just two weeks ago - McCain and Graham (who faces 2014 primary for sure) were not. I would not mind seeing a McConnell challenge from the right, but that doesn’t mean I throw Rand out with the bathwater over it either.....

It’s the time when primary challengers are sizing up their ability to run a campaign. My guess is that Paul’s endorsement makes McConnell nearly bulletproof in the primaries.
I wouldn’t throw Paul out with the bathwater either over this. He wouldn’t be my first choice among potential members of the Class of 2016 (it would be Ted Cruz) but having been a Santorum supporter in the last cycle I understand that sometimes endorsements are made in the name of political expediency.
I do think, however, that McConnell’s conservatism is overrated and as Minority Leader he has served as nothing more than a useful idiot for the 0bama agenda.
