FL:Cheap Guns Opportunity in Miramar, April 20th, 2013
Gun Watch ^ | 6 April, 2013 | Dean Weingarten

A gun turn in event in Miramar, Florida delivers an opportunity for Second Amendment activists to obtain some nice guns for little money. Their actions would also create a media event to protect Second Amendment Rights.

The event will be held at ChristWay Baptist Church, 3800 S. Douglas Road on April 20th, a Saturday. These events are political theater, designed to delegitimize gun ownership and armed citizens.

Across the country, freedom fighters are showing up at these events, and offering cash for the better specimens. This should be welcomed by event organizers, if their purpose is to "get guns off the streets". This is because such activity stretches the turn in dollars, prevents poor widows from being defrauded of their valuable property for a pittance, and places guns that are not wanted in responsible hands.

Private sales are perfectly legal in Florida, as they are in most states.

There appears to be only $5,000 dollars available for this event, so there could be excellent opportunity to obtain items after the money runs out. They are offering up to $200 dollars per item, but I suspect much less for most.

It appears that this event is trying to prevent private sales by insisting that the firearms be kept in car trunks and that the owners stay in the car until an officer takes the firearms out of the trunk.

Local information would be appreciated, as these events are often held in poor neighborhoods.

No money is being offered for pellet guns. There are expensive pellet guns out there, it is possible one might show up.

Here are numerous links showing private individuals purchasing guns at numerous events across the country:

I wish they would have some of these “buyback” events in the area where I live. Unfortunately, all of the Sheriffs and Police Chiefs around here are pro-gun/pro-Second Amendment types. I’d love to be able to pick up some new guns cheap.

Decent area, certainly not Miami type area.....

What do I do if I go? Stand out front or something?

Darn, I’ll miss out. We just got home a few hours ago from our family spring break vacation in Miramar where we stayed right across from Kenny D’s Beach Bar. Seems like it’s a fairly “red state” area, so hopefully there will be a good pro 2nd response. A lot of military folks in the area...

Then again, I don’t think I’m qualified enough to know if I’m buying a piece of crap or not.....

But a revolver would be easy to buy right? Just see if the hammer goes and chamber turns right? I don’t have a revolver yet. Would like one cheap.

It’s like 30 min away from me. Nice area.

I doubt a little old lady going there to “turn her gun in” would stop and sell it to me standing somewhere nearby anyhow.

Liberals down here are brain dead. They would go like zombies to this event. “Aunt Sylvia” ain’t selling her bad gun to some tall guy standing there with a sign.

Would still be interesting to go.

There are a couple more things to know about purchasing a revolver. Look at the forcing cone for any signs of lead deposit that would indicate misalignment, and wiggle the cylinder to see how tight a fit it still has - that’s also critical for proper alignment of barrel and chamber. Check the barrel toward the muzzle and the cylinder for signs of holster wear - this may indicate it’s an old duty gun (I have a very nice Smith model 19 that was carried by a cop for years and fired about twice a year). Check the grips for fit and the front sight for any motion if it’s a pinned sight. Make sure the extractor runs smoothly and isn’t bent. If the owner will let you dry fire it (most won’t) check for scraping feelings in double-action that will indicate internal wear. Oh, and check the barrel for rust or obstruction. That’s what I do, anyway. Best of luck!

“What do I do if I go? Stand out front or something?”

Much depends on the physical set up. The article has a lot of links where other people have done this. I would recommend reading some of those experiences to get ideas.

If I were there, I would bring a table and cash, a sign, and set up in an area where people could pull over and park.

I would have a recorder to record police interactions if any. It would be nice to have another person to back you up.

If you do go, I would love to get an account, and, hopefully, pictures. I would be happy to write it up and post it.

You could contact me by freepmail.

After reading some of those links, I think I agree with them.

This is political theater. And the attendees are brain-dead liberals who think they’re saving the world.

They are not going to sell me anything.

SFL is 66% liberal, and the further South you go, the worse it gets. I have never done anything like this.

Why would a brain-dead lib sell it to me instead of turning it in to melt it down to “save the world”..... Seriously the liberals down here are zombies.

I have a couple coming up in May, a couple of hundred miles from me. I will be going to show a presence that disrupts the political theater by interfering with their message that guns are bad.

With luck, I will pick up a decent gun or two. Quite a few of the people showing up do not have ideological commitment. They are just people who inherited a firearm, do not know what to do with it, want to get rid of it, and see the notice of the “buyback”.

Gun show promos need to start stating they are also gun buy backs.

Ok, I’m going.

Bro-in-law (fellow conserv) is interested in going with me. He’s a great salesman too and said he’ll talk to his cop friend before we go.

Will be interesting.

What about this? From article:

“It appears that this event is trying to prevent private sales by insisting that the firearms be kept in car trunks and that the owners stay in the car until an officer takes the firearms out of the trunk.”

“It appears that this event is trying to prevent private sales by insisting that the firearms be kept in car trunks and that the owners stay in the car until an officer takes the firearms out of the trunk.”

That is why I think you need a place where people can park their cars to make the transaction.

I believe Florida law has an exception to breifly handle firearms in public for the possibility of a sale. I think it passed a couple of years ago.

Here is a link to Florida Open Carry:

I would bring some gun cases or sacks to put purchases in.

As it is a decent area, and as air rifles have gained in popularity, with many costing hundreds of dollars, If I were there, I would have a sign saying “Cash for air guns, BB guns, and pellet guns.

As the turn in people are not paying *anything* for them, you might pick up some very nice items for very little.

I would personally pay $10 for any working BB gun, if I were there.

Just remember, I am not a lawyer, nor do I play one on the Internet. Citizenship in these United States has become a rather risky business, but most of us have no where to run to.
