Yesterday morning my son received his Eagle, Globe, and Anchor as a US Marine. The young man who has given me an abundance of laughter, grief, delight, worry, aggravation, frustration, excitement, and exhaustion for nineteen years now fills me with pride and joy.
I could not be more proud or more happy that he has overcome all the setbacks and disappointments that held him back. Just talking to him on the phone today, for the first time since he went to boot camp 13 weeks ago, it was easy to hear that he was now a man, a very different person than the boy he was when he left. As I hoped, the Marines changed him into a different person.
I know that this forum full of patriots will share my patriotic pride. But in these difficult times, my pride is mixed with justifiable fear. So I ask you all to agree with me in prayer, and pray that our Father in Heaven will protect this young American as he seeks to protect our country. Please ask that God's will be done in his life.
I hope your proud US Marine son reads your wonderful tribute to him!
God bless you and keep you, dearest ottbmare.
I will keep him in my prayers. I promise. My eldest grandson remarkably changed on the day he became a US Marine! I pray for him too.
Semper Fi.
God bless and keep your magnificent son.
Bless you and your Marine son and thank you for rearing the next generation of heroes,
Semper Fi.
My late father was a Marine. He was proud of that from 1943 go the day he died. May your son carry the same pride for the rest of his life.
Congratulation to you all!
I have always admired and respected our Great Military.
God Bless!
Prayers said!
Welcome aboard Marine!

God Bless you and your family. Here’s a book you would enjoy. The dad was pretty much a pinko and his son became a Marine.

My daughter's boyfriend joined the Marines and goes to Parris Island in a few weeks. He almost seems like a son to me. A great kid and I hope he does as well as your son.
Prayers for your son's continued success.
My son starts Marine boot camp in September. He’s been working with his recruiter for the better part of a year. He talks about getting his EGA at the end of boot camp like finding treasure at the end of a treasure hunt. I know how much it means to your son, and I know the pride/fear you feel.
I promised my son I’d get him an album to trace his journey through the Marine Corp. Here is the link:

Semper Fi, son of Ottbmare. :)
Oh, yes. I remember the Crucible. I know of your concerns. That was on my mind the whole 4 years he was in. What is your son’s MOS?(I think that’s what it’s called). My son was in Infantry. He was stationed at Camp LeJeune, in what was called the 2, 2. I forget what it stood for. Please check your private mail.
One more thing. You are in for a real treat. The graduation ceremony will leave you with tears and goosebumps, as well as extreme pride. Bring a camcorder with you. It’s a memory you will want to keep. Bring a lot of money or credit cards with you. They have magnificent gift shops that you will want to patronize. Will you be staying on the grounds? We did, and we loved it. You could hear the Marine recruits doing their morning exercises and drills early in the morning. Great experience.
LOL, as if I had “a lot of money or credit cards” to bring with me, Murron! I wish, but I’m just barely able to afford to go down there at all. It’s going to be a challenge as well as a once-in-a-lifetime joy.
