I suppose it is important to keep reminding people of the basic facts of the Westboro Baptist Church.

This is from the 2010 Wikipedia entry on Fred Phelps, a Democrat, leader of the group:

"Phelps is a disbarred lawyer, founder of the Phelps Chartered law firm, a past civil rights activist in Kansas, and a Democrat who has five times been a candidate for political office in Kansas Democratic Party primaries."

The Southern Baptist Convention (SBC), listed in Wikipedia as the largest association of Baptists in America, has this to say about Democrat Phelps and his crew:
