Bloomberg: Interpretation of Constitution 'Must Change' to Stop Terrorism, Gun Violence
Breitbart's Big Government ^ | April 23, 2013 | Ben Shapiro

Posted on 04/24/2013 7:50:14 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

On Monday, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced that the Constitution would have to be reinterpreted in order to curtail civil liberties to prevent terrorism. Bloomberg likened such reinterpretation to the Supreme Court’s interpretation of the Second Amendment, which he says allowed for greater gun control to preserve public safety.

At a press conference, Bloomberg stated, “The people who are worried about privacy have a legitimate worry. But we live in a complex world where you’re going to have to have a level of security greater than you did back in the olden days, if you will. And our laws and our interpretation of the Constitution, I think, have to change.”

Bloomberg then likened his desire for more gun control to the need for more restrictions of civil liberties: “Clearly the Supreme Court has recognized that you have to have different interpretations of the Second Amendment and what it applies to and reasonable gun laws … Here we’re going to to have to live with reasonable levels of security.”

He continued, “It really says something bad about us that we have to do it. But our obligation first and foremost is to keep our kids safe in the schools; first and foremost, to keep you safe if you go to a sporting event; first and foremost is to keep you safe if you walk down the streets or go into our parks,” he said....

I believe in original intent, and it seems very clear to me that private citizens should be able to own a single shot muzzle loaded matchlock or flintlock gun or duelling pistol.

I'm sure the mayor of NYC looks around at the concrete monstrosity he rules over and demands that everyone's notion of liberty match his own.

Too bad for him I live in the country, thousands of miles away from his kingdom.

Must be nice to pontificate on how we unwashed masses must surrender our freedoms while Doomburg himself is protected by armed security and lives in luxury enjoying freedoms that the rest of us will never know.

Flaming hypocrite.

Hey, Bloomers, cala a boca, bobo!

I wish Bloomers would do America a favor and move to Pyongyang, Tehran or Havana. He could make America “a better place” in a heartbeat if he’d just go away and stop harassing people. He’s getting to be a real pain in the @$$.

The struggle between Liberty and Authority is the most conspicuous feature in the portions of history with which we are earliest familiar, particularly in that of Greece, Rome, and England. But in old times this contest was between subjects, or some classes of subjects, and the Government. By liberty, was meant protection against the tyranny of the political rulers. The rulers were conceived (except in some of the popular governments of Greece) as in a necessarily antagonistic position to the people whom they ruled. They consisted of a governing One, or a governing tribe or caste, who derived their authority from inheritance or conquest, who, at all events, did not hold it at the pleasure of the governed, and whose supremacy men did not venture, perhaps did not desire, to contest, whatever precautions might be taken against its oppressive exercise. Their power was regarded as necessary, but also as highly dangerous; as a weapon which they would attempt to use against their subjects, no less than against external enemies. To prevent the weaker members of the community from being preyed on by innumerable vultures, it was needful that there should be an animal of prey stronger than the rest, commissioned to keep them down. But as the king of the vultures would be no less bent upon preying upon the flock than any of the minor harpies, it was indispensable to be in a perpetual attitude of defence against his beak and claws. The aim, therefore, of patriots was to set limits to the power which the ruler should be suffered to exercise over the community; and this limitation was what they meant by liberty. It was attempted in two ways. First, by obtaining a recognition of certain immunities, called political liberties or rights, which it was to be regarded as a breach of duty in the ruler to infringe, and which, if he did infringe, specific resistance, or general rebellion, was held to be justifiable. A second, and generally a later expedient, was the establishment of constitutional checks, by which the consent of the community, or of a body of some sort, supposed to represent its interests, was made a necessary condition to some of the more important acts of the governing power. To the first of these modes of limitation, the ruling power, in most European countries, was compelled, more or less, to submit. It was not so with the second; and, to attain this, or when already in some degree possessed, to attain it more completely, became everywhere the principal object of the lovers of liberty. - JS Mill On Liberty (1859)

Lesse. The fags and liberals control the brainwashing centers known as public schools. The demoRATs are full blown communist. What's left of the repugnant party is constantly moving to the left.

Yeah, they will succeed in abolishing the Constitution someday. And in the not too distant future.

You know,,, maybe he’s right. And while we are at it, why should antiquated ideas of property rights be sacred anymore? Our founders had never heard of a “billionaire”. Maybe our interpretation of liberty and private property should change for the greater good. Maybe he needs to be stripped of all assets above Obamas magic number of 200,000 dollars./
Lets see how willing he is to give up something he holds dear./

BS. WE lived through lots of terrorism in the past, and we didn’t need no stinkin disarmament of citizens to get back to more normal conditions.

Catch the SOB’s and kill them. Deport the illegals. Seal the borders. Get serious about cleaning out gangs and stopping the drug cartels from invading the country etc. etc.

Besides, I didn’t see any reports where the bozo bomber brothers used their pistol on anyone. They use pressure cooker bombs.

So what is Bloomie gonna do: Require permits and licensing for purchasing pressure cookers? The best defense we have is well armed law abiding citizens that’s the way to safety.

It is amazing to be that some black suited “authority” didn’t accidently kill someone when they were being “rescued” at the point of a gun.
