Indications that President Obama's Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), his signature legislative accomplishment, is turning into a fiasco of major proportions has Democrats uneasy.
A man instrumental in its enactment, Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont), labeled it a train wreck. The implementation is a total shambles. It's as if Secretary Sebelius has no idea of what she's doing. She's been quick to ensure that everyone is entitled to abortion coverage, but how the average person is supposed to cope with unforeseen medical contingencies is up in the air. On top of this, employers across the nation are cutting employees hours in order to evade their responsibility to pay for health insurance.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev) laid the blame squarely on the GOP. We did our part to create this new entitlement, it's the Republicans' turn to step up and vote for the funding needed to finance it, Reid said.
That funding is needed contradicts the original script of the Democrats' case for the legislation. It was supposed to be self-financing. It was supposed to save money. Neither of which now seems to be true. In fact, projections now show that the cost of health insurance is set to increase by 25% to 50% under the law.
While the rising costs of Obamacare is now the consensus view, the contention that it will improve health care also received some disconcerting contrary news. A study of the federal Medicaid program in Oregon revealed that while spending rose by 35% for eligible recipients, health outcomes did not improve. In the 18-month period studied, participants fared no better than non-participants.
Based on this study's results, Avik Roy, Senior Fellow at the Manhattan Institute called it unethical to take money from taxpayers to fund a program that doesn't improve health outcomes.
Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius disagreed. Health outcomes aren't the only metric with which we are concerned, Sebelius asserted. Taking money from those who have more than they need and spending it on those who have less is, in itself, a worthy goal. Just because a person is poor is no good reason for him to be denied the opportunity to have money spent on his behalf regardless of whether it does any good.

We did our part to create this new entitlement, it’s the Republicans’ turn to step up and vote for the funding needed to finance it,
Hate to tell you Harry, but, we don’t want to fund it!
Why are these attempts at humor posted in breaking news, constantly?
Sorry Reid but we already predicted this lie years ago, especially if it failed.. You just proved you’re a liar once again and predictable at that.
Reid is such a failure he could not even become a homosexual.
I know this is satire, but, I have heard some liberals blame the GOP for how Obamacare is. They claim that Obamacare evolved into a hodge podge of bureaucracy, incoherent regulations, and taxes, precisely because the GOP would not negotiate a better bill with the Democrats.
I don’t buy that for a second, but that’s what some liberals say. Also, they mention the Scott Brown election to the Senate, which meant that the House had to pass the original preliminary Senate version of the bill, which was not intended to be the final version, yadda, yadda, yadda.
Bottom line — liberals and their water carriers in the media will find some aspects of the coming Obamacare mess to blame on the GOP.
Is Dirty Harry Reid’s obvious brain damage the fault of the Republican Party too, or was that Bush’s fault? I forget .....
Just make sure that MY VIAGRA is covered in this ObamaCare Affordable law, and we’ll all back it.
This Sebelius quote is among your best work, John, IMO. Even though she hasn't publicly said this, there is no doubt she has said it privately and actually believes it.
You all know that this is what is coming do you not?
Yes. If there were only Democrats it would go unnoticed.
Expensive failure? Ensured medical malpractice? Mandatory euthanasia for those too ill or old to be worth treating?
Thanks for the fake Sibelius comment. First good laugh I’ve had in a week. Of course, while she probably didn’t say it, she most certainly thought it. As long as it isn’t her money being thrown down a rathole.
Socialists always use three excuses as to why their programs always fail.
1) Not enough money.
2) Sabotage by their enemies.
3) It has to be “universal”, because competing systems aren’t “fair”.
Since these three don’t work when foreign socialist systems fail, they deny they failed. There are many leftist apologists who insanely insist that the Soviet Union, Cuba, and even North Korea were or are “better” than what we have.
We will see... The damned Republicans just funded it for another six months.(see tag)
To a socialist a system where all common people are equally mistreated and abused is superior to a free society in which some might fare less well than others.
To them the stress of having to make one’s own way is intolerable. The suffering of all is reassuring.
I remember listening to a local radio talk show host who got a call from an incredible slacker complaining about the lack of free, government paid for health care. And, as it turned out, so very much more.
The radio was about apoplectic with rage at the caller before it was over, for being an utterly worthless, useless parasite.
The caller started out by demanding free government health care. He ignored the arguments against it, and felt that everybody else should pay for what he wanted. But not just that, that he should not have to even get off his rear end to go visit a doctor for free medicine, but that the doctor should come to his apartment whenever he wanted.
In that this would be stupidly expensive, that somebody would have to pay for, and if he had to pay for it, it would use up his paycheck, the caller replied that he didn’t work, that he was on welfare and food stamps, and that he deserved it all for free anyway.
The talk show host about blew a fuse. It was a lot worse than the woman who had like 10 kids, was pregnant again, and was demanding that “somebody has to pay for my kids!”
As obama’s re-election demonestrated, there are many more such the caller you mentioned.
