Never mind that Lafferty's emotional plea defies logic. Expanded background checks would not have prevented Newtown. It would not have stopped Adam Lanza from gunning her his mother down.

Ridicule. It’s just not working the way it used to. Scorn, jeering, comedians screaming “f***” all the time, people are just numb to it. Ridicule depends on the element of surprise, and it’s all so predictable.
