Gun Owners Beware - Let's Not Act Like Hot-Headed Fools
Political Realities ^ | 05/05/13 | LD Jackson

Posted on 05/05/2013 9:16:53 AM PDT by LD Jackson

2nd Amendment ControlI seldom post more than once per day, but I believe this warrants the occasion. I was doing my morning rounds of reading the news and blog posts I read almost every day and came across something that troubles me greatly. It has to do with the push for more gun control, restrictions on the 2nd Amendment and how gun owners are portrayed in the media.

If you have read Political Realities for any length of time, you should be aware of my stance on gun control. I do not believe it is a good thing, much less constitutional. I do not trust the liberal advocates of gun control and believe they will never be satisfied until the 2nd Amendment is legislated into non-relevancy. Call me paranoid, but that's how I feel.

Having said that, I do believe it falls on gun owners and other liberty-loving individuals in America to behave in responsibly. This is especially true in high-profile events where it is highly likely that the media will take the slightest misstep and portray it in a way that will not be to our advantage. Thus it is with the event that prompted me to write this post.

Salon - Libertarian activist and radio host Adam Kokesh is hoping to get 1,000 people to march on Washington on July 4 — armed with loaded rifles. The plan, launched with a Facebook group today, is to gather on the Virginia side of the Potomac, where gun laws are lax, and then march across the bridge with loaded rifles slung over their shoulders into the District, where openly carrying weapons is generally prohibited.

“This will be a non-violent event,” the Facebook group warns, “unless the government chooses to make it violent.” Already, over 200 people have said they’ll attend the march.

Seriously? With all the bad press gun owners receive from the media, no matter if the press should be bad or not, does Adam Kokesh really believe this is a smart idea? At the risk of sounding like I am questioning his motives, I can't help but wonder if he is more interested in raising his profile to the public than anything else. If he really wants to help gun owners, conducting a march on Washington with loaded weapons is not the way to go. It is my honest opinion that such a march would leave his intentions, good, bad, or otherwise, far too open to interpretation by the media. Does anyone reading this really believe that interpretation would turn into anything good for gun owners? I think not and I have no problem believing gun control advocates are salivating at the possibilities such a march would provide.
Hot Air - Showing up with a thousand (or even a few hundred) people openly carrying loaded weapons and marching toward the Capitol is not something that law enforcement is going to play around with, particularly when you announce it in advance. And they’re not going to allow the march to proceed “peacefully” either. Normally I’d write this off as a bad idea that wouldn’t gain widespread support, but the problem here is that it doesn’t need widespread support. It would really only take a few hundred really upset people to get it rolling. And even if most of them intend it to be peaceful, when the officials show up to arrest them, weapons drawn, you have the potential for disaster which Rick Moran foresees.
There isn't a chance this will turn out to be good for our cause. It will be anything except that. The more research I do, the more I am convinced that Adam Kokesh is after publicity for his upcoming run for Congress, more so than helping the plight of gun owners who feel their 2nd Amendment rights are under attack. I believe we should take steps to distance ourselves from Kokesh and his ill-conceived march on Washington with loaded rifles. Preemptively, we should be making it known that responsible gun owners have nothing to do with this hot-headed, anti-war demonstrator who is masquerading as a conservative.

"We are most likely going to have to fight this one out, so let’s all pick a good time and place.".....and target. Then, on a given day from millions of citizens, a handful of Patriots unknown to each other, will visit the fate of the Hydra upon them.

What should the Allies have done to prevent the Nazi press from giving them bad coverage?

"Somewhere along the march route it is almost a certainty that a person secretly working for the government will fire a shot in order to provoke violence."

You hit the nail on the head, and that is why this proposal should not be supported by any intelligent patriots.

But if one listens to the leftists-socialists one hears them say: Pay no attention to history it may offend someone.

We have over turned these laws.
DC Vs Heller comes to mind.

Kay Bailey Hutchinson reworked these laws successfully.

I don’t care how noble the cause or how brilliant the planned action is, I’m not going to follow some commie kook who masquerades as a Republican and lies about his military service to get elected.

This plan sure smells like something Eric Holder fomented. If it happens it’ll give him and Obama all they need to get any gun control legislation passed in the senate.

How politically correct of you!

Pardon my intrusion, but since I regard the MSM, and specially PBS lower than worm excrement, I refuse to pattern my life, my outlook and my opinions on the fear of how they might react.

The constant stream of omissions, distortions and outright fabrications by the MSM without criticism, can only give validity to what amounts to the propaganda arm of the most vile, dishonest and oppressive U.S. government ever.
I refuse to join your "progressive" club. Nothing personal.

Another important point about what the Michigan father did. He put his own butt on the line without trying to get others to do the same.

That opinion is valid only on the assumption that adult citizens are not capable and able to make up their own minds.
You may choose to decide for yourself.

It wouldn’t surprise me. The left desperately needs us to lose control and give them a reason.

If you look at history, those who remain calm win in the end. Think about the Chicago riot and the Weather underground. They lost because they were impatient and became increasingly radical and violent. The same is happening again and we need to be smart enough to allow it while defending ourselves.

However, no more coddling of clowns like William Ayers.

Obviously a correct assumption.

“The constitution was written before
any police regulations,” replied the general.
“If they come in conflict with the
constitution, they are void. We stand
squarely upon the constitution. That is
our platform.”
“How do you intend to force your
rights?” _
“There is but one way—by an appeal to
the courts. We will go before the highest
court in the land if necessary. Meanwhile
we will- wait here in Washington if it takes
all summer. If the courts refuse us our
rights, there will be a revolution. I do not
advocate revolution, nor do I desire it, but
it will be irresistible, and it will be the
greatest revolution of history if the American
people are once thoroughly aroused.”

...they could use pitchforks instead.

Tar, feathers and a fence rail would be appropriate, too.

Well, laws would be broken. I think that's the intent.

A law in conflict with the Constitution is an invalid law.

Imho, it is not time to start a war...

Is it time to start taking out those who will give the orders to fire upon us, provided the ballot box is ineffective?

I made a prediction several years ago. This was that prediction and this prediction was shared at what I considered the appropriate levels. Prediction ... by 2014 the American people will decide to vote at the ballot box, (prediction) by 2016 a vote at the ballot box will be in question. By 2018 all bets are off.
