I take it that you are referring to Germany. It was not a "Christian" country at that time; its leadership had reverted to nationalist paganism, pseudo-scientific materialism and eugenics. It also allied itself with Muslims in Palestine and Eastern Europe in its attempt to destroy Jews.

Sorry, conflated my responses. Re: the Nazis. I don't consider the Nazis to have been Christians, and certainly most of their leaders were anti-Christian by any standard. But most of the German people were Christians throughout the Nazi rule, or thought they were.
It should be noted that a large multiple of Muslims fought for the Allies in WWII as compared to those who fought for the Axis.
