BEDFORD: A House Divided: The Wacko Birds and their war on DC
The Daily Caller ^ | 6/10/13 | Christopher Bedford

There is rebellion afoot in the United States Senate. A new breed of conservatives and libertarians are loosed, unconcerned with The New York Times, unfettered by back-bench rank and unintimidated by Washington politics.

Elected over the past three years, Republican Sens. Rand Paul, Mike Lee and Ted Cruz have had a meteoric impact in Washington, soaring to grassroots stardom, crashing into the Democratic majority and raining down on the old bulls of the Republican Party.

Ads by GoogleDubbed “Wacko Birds” by top Republican John McCain, these three wear the senior Arizona senator’s scorn as a badge of honor.

The Democrats and Republican leadership are furious. And it isn’t simply because these young upstarts exist — it’s because they’re scoring real points. Using the difficult and arcane rules of the Senate to their advantage, they have several victories under their belts that have earned them the respect and support of the conservative grassroots. And despite the ire of both parties — and both parties’ well-connected allies in the press — the Wacko Birds continue undeterred.

Their tradition is an old one. Before their arrival in the Senate, now-Heritage Foundation President Jim DeMint held the torch, using the rule book to hold fast on conservative principles and frustrate the leadership of both parties. Before DeMint, Sen. Jesse Helms was the rock, twisting Republican arms and forcing Democrats to publicly vote for their agendas. But today is different. Today, the conservative voice isn’t alone in the wilderness, nor is it even limited to these three: The Wacko Birds are finding allies across the GOP, with even Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell rushing to their side when politically convenient.

Here are some particular gems from the article:

"By leading the charge to the Senate floor, demanding difficult votes and utilizing the minority’s filibuster power, the three have thrown a wrench in Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s Senate steamroller."

"one senior Wacko Bird adviser told TheDC. “McCain has really been digging in, fighting against Cruz, Paul on these issues. He seems to be leading the charge against us. That the guy was the 2008 nomination, it shows that there’s just a huge division in the party.”

"McConnell “just hates Rand Paul,” another senior Wacko Bird staffer told TheDC. “He and Sen. Lindsey Graham are frustrated that we’re mucking up the system and breaking with how they want things done.”

"McCain “is the embodiment of the establishment,” one senior Wacko Bird staffer told TheDC, “and there’s no better depiction of that than Mr. McCain taking to the floor to defend the old ways of doing things against his own party. Why? Because they’re the ones who run it.” And the media is complicit, Club for Growth Communications Director Brian Keller told TheDC: They’re jumping on the pile-on “because they miss the good old days when the Senate would come together and decide how much they’re going to grow government. Now they are being held accountable, and that’s clearly frustrating.”

Isn’t that sweet? McCain took time off from helping
al Qaeda to called Americans Patriots
by the derogatory name “Wacko Bird”.
McCain got the idea looking in his mirror.

I’d rather be a “Wacko Bird”, than a Traitor Snake!

I’d say Angry Birds is more appropriate. They certainly are the mortal enemy of Pork in the budget. . .

“That the guy was the 2008 nomination, it shows that there’s just a huge division in the party.”

Indeed there is. Who will win is an open question, that needs a positive answer.

Since the so called mainstream seems to migrate more toward the democrat way of doing things, one might conclude this is an open and shut case.

If not for the voices of the Wacko Birds. Bless them!

McCain is the real Manchurian Candidate. Brain washed in North Vietnam to the point that he came back and poses as a republican when he’s really a democrat.

If they insist on calling the real conservatives like Paul, Lee, and Cruz this Wacko Bird name, it’s time to bring back the Moss-back monicker for the liberal Repubs like McCain, McConnel, et al. Moss-back is certainly more descriptive name

Mccain and Grahamnesty voted for the Reid Senate bill to enforce states sales taxes for internet purchases.

I live in O Malley-land Maryland where he raised that sales tax from 4 to 6 %, a 50% increase, which we avoid by shopping online.
And those two traitors voted to be tax collectors for Martin O’Malley.

I dispise them.

At this time last year, I viewed Rand Paul and his father as isolationist moonbats who shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the levers of power for foreign policy.

Then the American sheeple voted to neuter our military for at least the next generation in November.

We no longer have the choice between the world's finest military who can project our power anywhere in the world and one which can (maybe?) defend our interests closer to home.

Our current options are between a military which can (maybe?) defend our interest closer to home and one which can be used by the regime in power to maintain that power. Call me a peacenik if you must, but that's the facts.

Clowns like McCain swell with pride when they hear themselves referred to as “Maverick” or “Hawk”.

I’m going to start calling them pack mules and vultures.

""McConnell “just hates Rand Paul,” another senior Wacko Bird staffer told TheDC. “He and Sen. Lindsey Graham are frustrated that we’re mucking up the system and breaking with how they want things done.” "

My kingdom for Rand Paul supporting a conservative primary challenger to McConnell. It is long past time that conservatives of convenience like McConnell were reminded that there are real consequences for aiding and abetting Democrats.

"...they miss the good old days when the Senate would come together and decide how much they’re going to grow government."

This is defined as "bipartisanship."

The Californiator Sales tax in 2013 is 7.5% with the various cities/counties allowed to add an extra 1.5% to a max of 9 %.

So anyone out here, who doesn’t try to maximize sales tax savings with the internet, is a liberal, a math failure or a rich idiot.

RE :”So anyone out here, who doesn’t try to maximize sales tax savings with the internet, is a liberal, a math failure or a rich idiot.”

Liberals take advantage of that too, but at the same time support ending it.

Its like Obama claiming he wants a bill that stops Holder from Spying on the media.

The libs here all avoid the taxes, but they support Dems who trying to get rid of that loophole.
