Sen. Bill Nelson in Effect Calls President Obama's Actions Treason
Lawrence Journal World ^ | June 11, 2013 | Reasonmclucus

Posted on 06/17/2013 11:23:07 AM PDT by kathsua

I interrupt my discussion of sexual harassment in the military for major breaking news.

Sen. Bill Nelson, Democrat - Florida, in effect said that President Barack Obama committed treason by claiming that Edward Snowden's revelation of NSA monitoring of American phone calls was an "act of treason". Nelson served on the Senate Intelligence Committee for six years.

Burgess Everett reports in Politico that Nelson said, “On the issue of if this a whistleblower or is this an act of treason, I think it directly is [treason]. And I think most of the people who served on intel will tell you that,”

“I think he ought to be prosecuted under the law,” Nelson told reporters. “Extradited and prosecuted. We cannot have national security if our secrets can’t be kept on our methods of gathering information."

If Snowden committed treason by revealing NSA's program to spy on American phone calls, then President Barack Obama committed treason when he released similar information about how the CIA found Osama bin Laden. After the execution of bin Laden Obama revealed that the CIA had been monitoring al Qaeda phone calls in its efforts to find bin Laden and had used satellite cameras to track bin Laden's suspected courier.

If Snowden should be "extradited and prosecuted" as Nelson suggests, then Obama should be impeached and removed from office. Obama's offense was far more serious than Snowden's. Snowden only revealed NSA is using computers to monitor phone calls. Obama told al Qaeda the United States was able to identify and monitor its calls. Obama went further and told al Qaeda that the United States knew which phone numbers they were using.

I don't know what Edward Snowden's motive was in revealing NSA montoring of domestic phone calls. I do know that if his actions qualify as treason then so do Obama's.

Of course Obama committed treason, but we probably shouldn't expect anybody to do anything about it. He's the Imperial President and is above the law not matter what he does. I don't think Republicans really want to remove Obama.

I think many want to remove him but they’re afraid to even publically expose him. Somebody with some guts needs to step forward and tell it like it really is.

Snowden’s motive is all the political elite can talk about without implicating themselves.

This article makes a good point. A couple dozen SEAL Team 6 members are dead as a result of Obama’s treason. And that’s just what is glaringly obvious.

Our elites keep trying to change the subject to irrelevant talk-show pablulum (”Is Snowden a HERO or a TRAITOR????!!!1”) instead of admitting that they are pleased that the NSA is engaged in extra-constitutional spying on Americans.

Obama is safe thanks to the US senate having a majority of Anti-American traitors that will not impeach him.

America's best hope lies in the Tea Party working over senatorial elections in 2014 ... to give us a Senate that will impeach Obama and put him in prison.

Yep, the morons in American can understand this one. And given that many of them are up to no good, they fear the government’s intrusions.

And as normal, I’m totally out of step with most Americans. I rank the 4 latest scandals as:

1 - Benghazi - 4 Americans died. An American property was attacked. The administration lied, and the Commander-in-Chief was absent his post. Malfeasance on a grand scale.

2 - IRS abuse - This was an overt, politically motivated attack on Americans and their first amendment rights.

3 - NSA snooping - It’s a lot of data. There should be serious controls so that politicians can’t use the data. If that can’t happen, it shouldn’t be collected at all.

4 - Reporter gate - If we had an independent media, this would matter to me. We don’t, so it doesn’t.

I favor changing the locks on the WH while he’s out of the country and not allowing him back in. Let’s see — we could do this while he’s in Africa and he can apply for assylum in Kenya, since he’s already a citizen of that country by his own admission.

This headline is a bit misleading and the story is confusing.

While I get what the author intends.. your average Joe will think Nelson said Obama committed treason.. which isn’t what Nelson was saying lol..

You’re right on both points.

The elections of 2014 are going to be the most important in our history.

There is a higher likelihood of space aliens nabbing him and taking him back to stand trial on Kaplutis than of THAT ever happening.

We cannot have national security if our secrets can’t be kept on our methods of gathering information.

Now there's something to debate. Is that true? If they indeed collect and record EVERY scrap of electronic information what can a bad guy do to avoid it? Nothing short of going off the grid and that would severely limit their effectiveness.

By MY logic making it public made us safer. Anyway, it would be a more interesting and useful discussion than talking about whether Snowden lied about his salary.

Judging from some of his recent comments downplaying the NSA scandal, I feel even Ted Cruz may be losing his edge to take on these matters.

So have I. I voted for Nixon when I was in the Army in 1972 and knew how important it was for him to beat McGovern. Most of us Vietnam vets voted for Nixon.

Don’t you think this actually is going to be the most important?

I think the last election was the most important. The tea party took them by surprise in 2010 and it will not happen again. They found that they can cheat as much as they want as long as they win. It doesn’t matter who counts the votes and who shows up to vote if the computer is the thing that casts the vote it wants to cast. Immigration will just be cover for more election theft.

We should be asking what the motivation was of the Administration and the Congress in undertaking this program as extensive as it is, and their motivation for keeping it secret. Inquiring minds want to know.

A Cruz statement from The Blaze last week:

“If it is the case that the federal government is seizing millions of personal records about law-abiding citizens, and if it is the case that there are minimal restrictions on accessing or reviewing those records, then I think Mr. Snowden has done a considerable public service by bringing it to light.”

Yeah but old Momma Jarret and her nasty crew would never allow them to do that! After all, she couldn’t get in to do her dirty work making mischief for the American people! They’d have to impeach her and the rest of his shadow government before they could do that!

In all seriousoness, the only way we could/should get rid of Obama is to get rid of Biden first and then to manipulate the appointment process so that there is a decent VP to take over. It does no good to get rid of Obama when the replacement would be just as bad.

Of course you mean those senators won’t remove him, since it would be House members that would (in a dream, ha!) impeach.

The important thing about the 2014 elections will be whether we get non-fraudulent outcomes. There seems almost no hope of that.

The House might not soon consider Obama's impeachment because it take's two thirds of the Senate to impeach.

Given that, the 2014 election will be crucial; and I'd suggest sending contributions to SarahPac..
