The political system in Bulgaria is similar to that in America involving shared power among dirty officials, corporate overlords and organized crime, and in recent days the Bulgarian citizens have taken to the streets in protest against the corrupt triumvirate as reported by Agence France-Presse: "up to 10,000 protesters have rallied in Sofia every evening since June 14, shouting 'Mafia!' and 'Resign!', angrily demanding that politicians sever their ties with oligarchs."
Maybe someday the good people of the United States will demand the same of their supposed leaders.
A GGF is buried in Sofia. He was a Missionary over there.
GF (his Son) was also a Missionary but had to flee when the Nazis started taking over.
GGF adopted a couple of native orphans who stayed - as of about 10 years ago when I last checked one of them was still alive and kept the family name.
Bulgarians have had it tough; from the Turkish massacres (at least 2 of them) followed by Nazi occupation and then Soviet dictatorship, which sort of devolved into rule by the old Russian Mafia, which wasn’t much of an improvement.
I’d like to think that between the Orthodox Church and such Faith that Missionaries like my Ancestor were able to share that there is at least a spark of Christian Hope and the dream of freedom surviving over there.
