From 21 feet an assailant in good physical condition has a good chance of getting to you before you can get off an effective shot. The closer he is the more risk you face.
it is also true he’s got a target on his back and the feds may still try to string him up for a federal civil suit (which I don’t believe they could win but just to slam him down further and bankrupt him even more).

My response wasn't that I was surprised the girl got close enough for the Burlglar/Robber to snatch it. It was in agreement with KarlInOhio's statement about initially thinking it was the cops who took the gun from the girl, not the perp. Obviously that changed after reading the story, but still, it's sad that that was my first thought upon seeing the headline.
