President Obama and Harry Reid - Demagoguery At Its Finest
Political Realities ^ | 08/10/13 | LD Jackson

DemagogueryPeople who have no substance in their arguments have only one thing to fall back on. When the positions they have taken, be it on political, societal, or religious issues, have no basis in fact, they can only do one thing. How else can they argue their points, if they have no real argument? Their only option is to use demagoguery to drown out their opponents. Many liberals are masters at demagoguery, but none are as adept at it than President Obama and Harry Reid. To get a sense of what I mean, we need to look at the definition of a demagogue. You can decide if it sounds like anyone you know.

A leader who obtains power by means of impassioned appeals to the emotions and prejudices of the populace.
Let us look first at Mr. Obama's much-heralded news conference on Friday. If I am not mistaken, it was the first he has held since April. I have watched some of the video segments on Fox and it struck me as a lot of words with no real substance. There was one part that really stuck in my throat, when he was talking about health care in general, Obamacare in particular.
The Daily Caller - “My friends in the other party have made preventing [30 million] people from getting heath care their Holy Grail,” Obama told friendly reporters at an afternoon press conference in the White House.

“The one unifying principle the Republican Party has is making sure that 30 million people don’t have health-care,” he said, portraying the three GOP Senators as representative of the GOP.

Wow! Yes, he really made that statement. He is trying to portray Republicans as a group of people who want to stop 30 million people can not receive the health care they need. How does he make that leap of logic? He starts with Republicans wanting to stop a massive over-reach of our government into the health care insurance section of our economy. He then equates the lack of heath care insurance with the lack of health care and there you have it. Republicans are trying to keep 30 million Americans from obtaining the health care they need. Obama makes all these assumptions, which have no basis in real fact, and the media never calls him on it. Not even once! They just sat there, like the good little worshipers they are.

It is just like the days of George W. Bush. He was accused of wanting to cut health care to children, but the facts were much different from what the media was showing. The Democrats neglected to explain that Bush was only wanting to cut the growth of the program, not the money that was actually being spent. They made their false claims and the media published them as fact.

Moving on to Senator Harry Reid, he has decided it is time to break out the race card. I don't take Mr. Reid very seriously, but he is the Senate Majority Leader. His words do carry a bit of weight and they do have meaning.

Talking Points Memo - Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) told KNPR radio Friday that he hopes Republicans' ongoing opposition to President Obama is driven by "substance" and not race.

"My counterpart, Mitch McConnell, said at the the beginning of the presidency of Barack Obama that he had one goal -- and that is to defeat Obama and make sure he wasn't re-elected. And that's how they legislate in the Senate," he said. "It was really bad. And we're now seven months into this second term of the president's and they haven't changed much."

"It's been obvious that they're doing everything they can to make him fail," Reid said. "And I hope, I hope -- and I say this seriously -- I hope that's based on substance and not the fact that he's African-American."

Here we have a high-ranking member of the Senate discussing why the opposing political party is not in favor of the policies his own party are shoving down the throats of Americans. Surely, it can't be because the two political parties have a fundamental different view on the role of government. Surely, it must be about something more than our desire to see the federal government constrained to its proper role, as defined by the Constitution. But, what other reason could there be for the Republicans to oppose Obamacare and other Democratic nonsense? It must be because we are all a bunch of white racists. Yeah, that has to be it.

When Barack Obama was campaigning for President in 2008, there were man of us who asked a lot of questions about his background, his character, and his policies. There were many times when we were shouted down with calls of racism. On the pages of this blog, I was accused of being a racist, just because I refused to go along with his liberal policies. No matter how many times I tried to explain that my opposition to Obama had nothing to do with the color of his skin, there was usually at least one liberal foot soldier hanging around to make sure I stayed in tune with my racist self.

Demagoguery is a most favored tactic of liberals and progressives. They have no argument, so they have to resort to something else. Instead of relying on logic, they hold up their hand, take the theoretical high moral road, and call their opponents out as liars. If that doesn't work, they come up with their own lies, such as are being told by President Obama, Harry Reid, and any other liberal who can find a microphone.

How do you argue your point against someone who is using demagoguery and has the media backing them up at every step? It's getting harder every day.

I don’t believe that Obama and Reid are “particularly adept” at demagoguery. They are simply loyal Marxists, and as a result, the MSM will cover for them and create an image of them that they are somehow superior in their skills and abilities.

They have successfully dumbed down a large portion of the American public and have potrayed the presidency now as another pointless idiotic entertainment show like the american idol, dancing with the stars or the bachelor.

Yes...they both play the race card which is the last desperate refuge of the intellectually challenged...and I don’t give a crap how much education they have.

I understand why Obama is a communist—but I am intrigued by Reid, who came from a small mining town in Nevada. United Mine Workers? Rural Nevada is still conservative.

I agree. You don’t have to be particularly adept at something if no one ever calls you out about it.

I would submit that they have done a masterful job of demagoguery. The proof is in the fact that Obama managed to win a second term, even though he should have been ran out of town on a rail.

The answer is really simple. Harry Reid is FROM Nevada, but he is no longer a Nevadan. This happens to a vast majority of people that are elected to “serve” as a representative of either the taxpayer or the state. They grow into the job and after 10 or 12 years, they are Washingtonians. Most only go back from wince they came to campaign.

I understand the “incumbents’ disease.” Harry Reid is beyond being a Washingtonian liberal—he’s a hard-core commie. He and Obama are joined at the hip. Lindsey Graham, McCain, Lamar Alexander, Corker, Grassley—those guys I get. They actually think they are doing good. They are useful idiots.

But how does a man raised as a Mormon from Searchlight, Nevada become a Stalinist? Someone who has complete disdain for our Constitution and our very way of life? Someone committed to the destruction of our institutions, freedoms and liberties? Surely it is more than the Service Employees International Union campaign contributions.
