The Phonies

There ought to be an award ceremony to honor “The Phonies” of American society. The contenders, so far this year, would be none other than our President and maybe his entire administration, harpO Winfrey and the Trayvon Martin case.

The President. in repeated references to phony scandals everywhere, was merely referring to his own “phoniness” when he professed outrage over the IRS scandal and of course, the “phoniness” of his entire administration over the youtube video that supposedly precipitated the Benghazi attack. And we can’t forget the phony outrage portrayed by “The Pants Suit” over the very same Benghazi scandal, “what difference does it make,” we must get to the bottom of it; well, according to dear leader, this was phony. Then, there was Mr. Crapper (er, Clapper, is it?), who told us the “least amount of lie” or some such crap; phony, stuff, right there. There are other examples, of course but we can get started here with the nomination process – at the ceremony, we can elaborate. Let’s be clear though, the lead contender(s) here, were phonies before claiming others were being phony.

Next, we have harpO Winfrey and the phony handbag (or whatever it was) scandal; harpO has learned to be phony from being too long in the television business and for dispensing a daily dose of utterly phony crap to weak minded people. This, of course, from the woman who has given the world “Dr. Pill” and James Frey; phonies that we know about.

Next, there is the Trayvon Martin case. This used to be a country where a person was, “innocent until proven guilty” and where the government needs to make its case. This used to be country where, respect for the rule of law, typically restrained folks at the highest level of government (read, President and AG), from commenting about these cases and certainly from being critical over jury decisions; read, undermine the legal process they are supposed to be in charge of. So, yes, the outrage here is phony because it fits a template that has nothing to do with the either the rule of law or the best interests of this country.

TOPICS: Government; Politics; Society
KEYWORDS: phony; scandals
I am sure there are a lot of other contenders but this is a start.

That is "Presumed innocent until proven guilty" and that is only in court. If there was a presumption of innocence, their ass wouldn't have been arrested and charged. You are either innocent or guilty. Whether it is proven is irrelevant to the truth.

That is a clever term and could be used to expose many instances of media and/or governmental malfeasance.

Some clever FReepers - man the You Tube!

The vast majority of people leave it out. It’s an important distinction. You are only presumed innocent in court.

Thanks. I agree and it can be done in a very comedic fashion that would likely appeal to a wide audience.

Sure. But officers of the court at the highest levels of our government need not publicly question the frame work of the system just because they disagree with a verdict - which is my point.

Agreed. Most people don’t understand that it means that the state must prove you to be guilty - as opposed to a system in which you must prove yourself innocent.
