Jerk of the Week - Somers, NY Police Department

RightWingPatriot.com is a staunch supporter of law enforcement and we have incredible respect for the good work that they do. However, we must not allow our ourselves to be blinded to misconduct and call out those who abuse their authority. When police officers engage in denying American citizens their First Amendment rights, they have to be called out. That is why our Jerk of the Week goes to the Somers, New York Police Department.

A resident of New York, Jon Gibson, became increasingly frustrated when his pro-Second Amendment signs kept disappearing and he decided to set up a hidden camera to catch the criminal. Imagine his surprise when the camera revealed that a police officer from the Somers Police Department was responsible. Two of Gibson's signs had disappeared and this was the third sign to be vandalized. The sign in question read, "Protect the Second Amendment" with an image of what looks like an M-16 rifle.

The camera captured the police officer getting out of his car and then kicking the sign so hard that the post snapped in half. The police department defended their actions, denying that the police officer attempted to destroy the sign. They said that he tried to loosen the sign, which is utter bull. If the officer had tried to lift the sign out of the ground, I would believe that. Instead, he just kicked the sign with a grin on his face.

The police department goes on to say that the signs are on the public right-of-way and that a letter had been sent to Gibson, which he says that he never received. Gibson says that he's being singled out as other signs have not been disturbed, only his.

Honestly, this is pure trampling upon the Constitutional rights of Jon Gibson by the Somers Police Department. It must be pointed out that the sign was on Gibson's property and right now he is having it surveyed to make clear the limits of the right-of-way. The PD claims that they've received "numerous complaints" but yet no citation was issued to Gibson. His only communication was with the town's building inspector who told him to leave the sign up as Gibson was going to argue for his sign in court after getting a notice from the building inspector, not the police. For ignoring Gibson's rights, our Jerk of the Week goes to the Somers, NY Police Department. Obama would be proud.

Rub your signs with Poison Ivy/Oak/Sumac. They might still take your sign, but they will pay with discomfort. Look for people covered in Calamine Lotion. Caught my neighbor’s teenager that way.

So are police getting away with this stuff way more in NY, Mass, California and Maryland than they are in, say, Texas or iN Southern or Midwestern states? Are the police in general more out of control in NY, California, Mass or Maryland?

I'd say they're pretty much out of control everywhere. Just look at Cato's Botched Police Raid map for starters:

I would hope that in some ways, with more exposure being brought on them, that it is at least less out of control than it used to be. In the past, if police pulled stunts like this, there was nobody around to watch them and so it was their word against the victims at all times - and of course, they were the ones who always told the truth. I would think that nowadays, since they are getting caught on tape more, that there is more accountability in that regard.

RWP needs to pay allegiance to our Constitution rights and nothing else. In the end it is the only mission that counts. Unfortunately for us many in law enforcement and in the spymasters corps are not necessarily supporters of our rights.

Staunch supporter, just shows they have something to learn. County sheriffs are worthy of support in some locales. Most of the rest, not so much. Sad to say but it is true.

That doesn’t work on everyone, my wife is allergic to everything under the sun EXCEPT poison Ivy! I can’t touch it but she will literally pull it up by the roots with her bare hands if I ask her to and it has zero effect on her. On the other hand a whiff of something in the air that I wouldn’t notice can have her wheezing and gasping for breath.

Law enforcement once had a mission of protecting and serving a public who paid well for that service. It was not perfect but it worked fairly well.

Today the militarized police with their SWAT and armored vehicles have a mission of going after the supposed bad guys and taking care of their own in the process, and if innocent citizens get caught up and die while this occurs, so be it.

Protecting and serving appears as no longer a prime LE consideration. It needs to once again become the prime mission and those who fail need to be held to account. The change needs to start at local government.

Concur; else police are another criminal gang/cartel trampling the liberties of our citizens and need to be disarmed and have their pensions stripped at a minimum.
