Even amid the "government shutdown" Camp David is open for business! Most of the employees are still on the job there and will stay on the job despite whats going on in Washington. That includes chefs, gardeners, electricians -- everyone who keeps the place up and running. The estimated number of employees who are still working there is over 250!
For those who don't know, Camp David is in Catoctin Mountain Park (in Frederick County, Maryland) and is a 180 acre compound built and run specifically for Presidential R&R. It is absolutely beautiful with a pool, tennis courts, a skeet range, bathhouse, bowling alley, horseshoe pit, cabins, and lots of other awesome stuff. The photo below shows a winter scene at Camp David.

Seems odd that what is essentially a vacation spot would stay open, while more important locations and services are being shut down. Turns out that Camp David is operated by the Department of Defense, so the staffers are considered active duty military personal and they are not being furloughed. Just thought this was strange considering the recent events with the WWII vets being blocked from their open-air memorial and the 200+ child cancer patients who are in jeopardy of missing out on medical trials.

Does Obama ever actually use Camp David? I have the impression that he prefers to vacation elsewhere.
Clown Prince nobama uses it infrequently but I would bet it is used frequently by upper-level Clown-Car-administration staffers as a perk. It seems similar to the country dachas the commie chiefs used in USSR.
It needs to be open in case the visitors to Washington begin to smell too much. (Harry Reid once commented that the visitors to the capitol smelled.)
Or in case the people in Washington show up with pitchforks, torches, and start marching around on the closed Mall.
He apparently hates Camp David because there is no golf course there. Camp David is an important facility that should be maintained for future presidents, but there is no need to have it full staffed— they probably have lobster on standby just in case Michelle drops in for lunch.
At first, I thought that our Dear Leader was defecting to Venezuela for his “presidential getaway”. Oh, well, maybe next time.
If I was ever President (fat chance), I would spend every weekend at Camp David.

Hey humble, why don’t you advise convictionsoffaith that admin is okay with excerpts from blogs? Why such a prick to people. If you want to do it right, why don’t you ask Jim if you can be an admin too, then you’ll have real authority, not just your crappy demeanor.

Camp David is way too pedestrian for their tastes. No glamor. No bright neon lights. Just trees ‘n stuff.
