Standard police tactics of shouting demands and using explitives actually cause an escalation to any confrontation with citizens.
No doubt. Psychotic behavior makes me edgy and the badges and uniforms don't do much to counteract that.

(Stupid is a Progressive disease.)
Last week I got home from work @ 7:00AM, and noticed a tinted window SUV in front of my house parked on the street. There was a driver just sitting in it looking down the road. I went out to check out what he was up to. I knocked on the window, instructing him to roll it down and asked if I could help him at the same time. He rolled down the window and said "No thanks, I'm waiting for someone". I then asked him who? because I know my neighborhood. He replied with "you don't need to know". I told him he would have to move on or I'd call the cops.
He then pulled out his badge shieldy thing and told me he was "watching a house down the block over a drug issue". I asked him if would like a cup of coffee while he waited? He said "Sure". So I went inside and got him a travel mug of coffee. He then told me that there were some people down the street in a rented house who had no business being in a place where nice people live, like us who want to know what's going on in their neighborhood and treat people nicely.
Now in today's nutty world, just think about how badly that encounter could have gone down? Think about the version of the story that would make it on the news if he was some jack-booted power crazy dumass?

(There is no such thing as healing, only a balance between destructive and constructive forces.)
