Normally I take this time to point out some odious person (usually a progressive liberal) who seems hell-bent on destroying this great country to be our Jerk of the Week. However, some events transpired this week that brought a smile to my face, so I decided to recognize those responsible to be our Hero of the Week. While it is very easy to point out things that are going wrong, it behooves us to remember that there are things that show us the way and give us hope, and these items need to be acknowledged. For standing up against Obama, Harry Reid, and all their pro-big government cronies, our Hero of the Week is the WWII vets who crossed the barricades to view the World War II memorial in Washington, D.C.
Just like their playbook for the sequester, the progressive liberals in our government are using the current government shutdown to inflict as much pain as possible upon the American public. One of their most egregious acts was to close down certain national monuments, such as the World War II memorial, despite the fact that surviving veterans were scheduled to visit it. The Honor Flight organization, which pays the expenses to fly WWII veterans up to visit the memorial, had planned to bring nearly 200 veterans last Tuesday, which was the first day of the government shutdown. These veterans are extremely elderly, being in their 80s and 90s, and we're losing too many of them every day. Which is why it's so important that these brave men are able to make one last trip to view the memorial and be together. Of course, Obama and his cronies don't give a damn. Being military veterans who stood up against tyranny makes them targets as they recognize power-mad tyrants when they see them. Plus, they're openly patriotic and consider America an exceptional country. The horror!
When the group of veterans, led by Representative Steven Palazzo reached the memorial, they were greeted by barricades. At that point, Palazzo and other members of Congress moved the barricades and the veterans entered. The Park Police made no attempt to stop them. One officer was quoted as saying, "Im not going to enforce the 'no stopping or standing' sign for a group of 90 World War II veterans. Im a veteran myself. What I found especially gut-wrenching was an image of one veteran, Ted Bellon, who broke down in tears when he was asked if he was upset that he had to see the memorial from behind a fence.
On Wednesday, another group of veterans moved the barricades to enter the memorial. The government is taking this insurrection by old men who served their country lying down. Between Thursday night and Friday morning, the National Park Service reinforced the barriers with wire. A group of veterans from Texas found this out and some Congressional members from Texas grabbed some bolt cutters from their offices to cut the wires. One notable elected official was Representative Ralph Hall who flew in the Navy during WWII and is 90 years old. Hall said, I was ready to go to jail. These veterans made great sacrifice for their country a long time ago and they traveled a lot of miles to get here. Its our memorial. By the time the Texas lawmakers arrived, the wires had already been cut.
I wish more people showed half the backbone and spirit that these veterans have shown us this last week. We need to stand up for our liberties and for what is right. For doing exactly that and showing the big government progressive liberals the proverbial middle finger, these WWII vets are our Heroes of the Week.
..let that sink in a bit
Ping, to yet another thread that needs to be kept and tossedf back into the faces of those smug liberal Marxist pukes!
My dad was a 22 year old LT (J.G.)in charge of an LCT (Landing Craft, Tank)on Utah Beach
November 11, 2013 is Veteran’s Day. May be a good time for some First Amendment “expressions”.
Mine was a 2nd LT. Marine Corps, 5th Div., landed D-Day Green Beach, Iwo Jima. No way in hell would he allow what’s going on here.
"Normandy was closed when we got there, too."
Yeah, Utah Beach..,
When I read that line about the vet breaking down in tears, I had to walk away from my computer I was so enraged. Obama and the Dems are just plain pathetic.
...the amount of hatred I have for this fake POS is insurmountable
