Petty Tirade: Selective Shutdowns at 12 National Parks Across America
IJReview ^ | 10/05/13 | Kyle Becker

Washington’s grown a bit nastier and colder since the last government shutdown, and the casualties of the partisan fight are the family memories lost from being denied access to public landmarks that are supposed to belong to the people. The government doesn’t see it that way anymore – it’s all just a “damn game” and the folks running the Capitol are just toying with the American people.

That’s right – public memorials, monuments and parks remained open under President Clinton and the Republican Congress in 1995/96, causing one to wonder how much inconvenience and financial hardship this partial government shutdown is creating is actually necessary.

THE STATES SHOULD SIEZE ALL Federal Managed Land, via state eminent domain, kick all Fed employees to the curb(expel Fed from the state)and declare land rightfully returned to state ownerhip.

Then tell the Feds to POUND SAND

The Community Organizer in Chief is leading a strike, and no one is forcing him back to the bargaining table. Yes...another “empty chair” epic fail. The House needs to go back to “Regular Order” and continue to package up multiple, targeted appropriations like they are supposed to do.

You have an excellent point. Politicians have been not enforcing and ignoring plenty of Govt. laws when it applies to their agenda.

According to the WSJ article the Gov’s office has appealed to the NPS, but the NPS says NO.

Barry is just itching for a fight, ethnic war, class warfare. I despise him.

Yes, I did. Funny thing is, my wife and I know the guy (everyone knows everyone else on Grapevine Mesa), but we all tried to remain calm. He said he had "no opinion" on the closing and that we needed to address "Washington."

I wryly said he does have an opinion, but he's refusing to disclose it. He nodded and smiled. It ended this way: as a stalemate.

It was a terrible day for me, I'll be honest. I hate feeling this way. I'm just seething with anger, disappointment, and indignation. I hate being in the position of a serf.

I look at that as he's afraid for his job. He's being watched, like the rest of us.

I agree. He's a kid with a new bride.

But it still stings.

Jan Brewer should pull on her big girl panties and send in the National Guard and State Police to re-open the Grand Canyon.

Governor’s in other states should do the same with national parks and monuments in their states.

Winter’s coming. People really shouldn’t care about temporary closures of national parks.

Not entirely true. Gateway National Recreation Area was closed back then.

US Army Corps of Engineers (Pittsburgh Dist) have closed the launching ramp and parking lot at Burnsville, on Burnsville Lake in WV. Just two Barackades and a cone. Used the ramp anyway and parked in the marina lot.

The ACE wanted to lock a cable across the road and give the key to the marina owner so that folks could pull their boats out in anticipation of the marina’s annual mid-Oct. closing for the season, but NOT to let others launch. He told them where to put the lock, cable AND the key.

2 things, didn’t want to ask, but I will, cause I think in strange ways, is the Martin Luther King Memorial open and did you know they also install barry-cades at the Marine Corps Iwo Jima Memorial? The Marine vets went in anyway.
