This is part of a broad conversation about downsizing government. It absolutely must happen. The next election and the one after can make a huge difference. The House acting on its Constitutional authority can change everything right now. Stop with the CRs. Continue to authorize piecemeal budgets until the Senate gets the message that they are not going to get anything else. Do your duty Boehner. Save the country.
> Liberals say we should squeeze the rich. And the average Senator is a millionaire. The top 10 richest Senators (7 out of 10 Democrats) have a combined net worth of over a billion dollars. Why the hell are we paying them to be in the Senate? They should be paying us.
Classic. Great line. We’ve all thought it. They sure seem to be worth a lot more than the GAO says they’re being paid and many weren’t millionaires before they were elected. Now I wonder why that is?
Federal revenues far exceed the interest payments on the debt, so default is only possible if Obama refuses to obey the law & pay those interest payments. The primary victims of failing to raise the debt ceiling would be the 800K+ "non-essential" government workers.
I doubt even Obama would put the US into default, but if he did, the People would overwhelmingly demand his impeachment & removal from office.
A default could easily start WWIII, as the US dollar value would go into a tailspin, the world economy would panic, & our creditors - not just China - would be furious. World economic chaos would be the result, making the Greek crisis look like a child who lost his lunch money.
There isn't going to be a default, so I wish they'd start talking about the real impact of a severely crippled bureaucracy.
This article is brilliant
