Reid: House bill DOA in Senate ["a blatant attack on bipartisanship. ... We felt blindsided"]

The House's latest plan to raise the debt ceiling and end the government shutdown won't pass the Senate, Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said on Tuesday.

“It’s unproductive and a waste of time,” Reid said. “The House legislation will not pass the Senate.”

Senate leaders are working on a deal that would end the shutdown, fund the government through Jan. 15 and raise the debt ceiling until February.

House Republicans met Tuesday morning to discuss preempting the Senate by passing their own plan to raise the debt ceiling and end the shutdown.

The House bill would delay Obamacare's medical device tax and scrap healthcare subsidies for members of Congress and top Cabinet officials, among other provisions. Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said no firm decisions about the plan have been made.

Reid said the bill is a non-starter even if Boehner finds the votes he needs to pass it.

“It’s a plan to advance an extreme piece of legislation and its nothing but a blatant attack on bipartisanship. ... We felt blindsided by the news from the House."

"Everyone needs to know that the measure under discussion in the House is no part of what we have negotiated here in the Senate."

Reid has criticized linking the medical device tax to the budget plan as "stupid" idea.

A spokesman for Boehner questioned why Reid is unwilling to accept a delay of the tax, given the broad support among Senate Democrats for repealing it.

"Is Senator Reid so blinded by partisanship that he is willing to risk default on our debt to protect a 'pacemaker tax' that 34 Senate Democrats are on the record opposing, and he himself called 'stupid'?" Boehner spokesman Michael Steel said.

Sen. John McCain criticized Democrats for their swift dismissal of the House legislation.

“I don’t understand that visceral reaction in a most negative fashion,” McCain said from the Senate floor.

McCain suggested that the House and Senate could both pass debt-ceiling bills and then go to conference to work out their differences.

“I believe it’s a good faith effort from the Speaker of the House,” McCain said. “Let’s stop the condemnation. Let’s consider the Republican House proposal as a serious proposal.”

Given that any spending/budget bills must originate in the House, I’d say Harry can go suck it.

Looks like Senator Reid isn’t having much success. After the Dems though Obama gave up too much and they got stuck with the sequester cuts, they wanted Reid to lead the charge on this one and have Obama take a back seat (just do his community organizer agitator stuff he does so well). But it seems the House isn’t dancing to the tune Reid is playing.

Boehner, pass the bill & immediately recess. Throw this mess in Dingys face. Haven’t you figured out they don’t want a deal!
Can’t figure out why they keep trying to play nice..the media will blame GOP no matter what they do so pass the bill & leave town.

So let me get this straight. For weeks we have been hearing that the world will end if we hit the debt ceiling, yet Reid is willing to go beyond the debt ceiling to preserve the medical device tax?

Doesn’t sound very bipartisan to me, Harry. The Republican House should stand as firm as the Democrats in the Senate. Then we’ll see if the “debt threat” bogie-man has any teeth, or if it’s just another trick by the Left to get their way.

And, I presume, the Senate Bill is dead in the House.

This is progress. Real progress. Hang in there House GOP. Hang in there. Dare Obama to not pay interest on the debt. You will win that bet. Dare them to tell the American people that Government employees, members of Congress and their staff and union members but not you are exempt from Obamacare.

Harry’s problem (and the ruling class’s problem) is that this proposal has the full Vitter amendment in it. So all congressmen, staffers, etc., are going to have to play in the Obamacare cesspool with the peons.

McCain and Reid try to play “Good Cop, Bad Cop”
Is it possible that the GOP has finally figured out McCain is the source of all their security leaks...?
Not a chance!

The House is more representative of the will of the people. By refusing to negotiate, Harry Reid is telling the people of the US: FU.

The US can service the debt with only the money that it spends on Illegals from Mexico. So, if the US chooses to default, it is because of the Illegals that the Democrats want to protect.

for weeks we have been hearing that the world will end if we hit the debt ceiling, yet Reid is willing to go beyond the debt ceiling to preserve the medical device tax?

And for months the RINOs have said they didn't want to stop Obamacare from being implemented so they could campaign to get rid of it and now they're saying they can't get rid of it even before it's implemented.

Maybe what we need is a constitutional crisis.

“I don’t understand that visceral reaction in a most negative fashion,” McCain said from the Senate floor.

"I mean, sure, I've been Harry Reid's #1 ally in wrecking any semblance of unity on this side of the aisle, giving the D's all the ammo they need to reject plans out-of-hand, but this, this is a bridge too far!

The Mighty Democrat Senator “No Debate” Reid has spoken though his use of raw Park Police Power by an incompetent, spendaholic, Democrat Administration: Release the floodgates of continuous increased Federal Spending or we will lower the BARRYCADE IRON CURTAIN until you cave in.

In this way Reid and Obama have defined for America what continued control of the US Senate and the Administration will be like in the future.

Each section of the BARRYCADE IRON CURTAIN is a visual testament to the abject failure of the Obama-Reid Adminstration and Senate.

There should be no doubt, except for the true believers in the Liberal “Mainstream” Media, that Democrats do not have the ability to operate, oversee, or manage a Government “- - - of the people, for the people, and by the people.”

Senator Reid has failed to produce a Federal Budget for five disgraceful years in a row. He thus in the most incompetent Majority Leader of the US Senate, ever.

The simple fact that Senate Democrats have chosen to keep Senator Reid as their Majority Leader can only be interpreted that the majority of US Senate Democrats do not have the ability to operate, oversee, or manage the US Federal Government.

Democrats REALLY REALLY want to kill the sequester cuts.

They can't do it, as the sequester "cuts" are, like Obamacare, "The Law of the Land."

“........Reid said he thought Boehner was trying to put forward the House proposal as way to pacify conservatives in his party whose support he needs in order to remain speaker. “I’m very disappointed with John Boehner, who would once again try to preserve his role at the expense of the country,” Reid said.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) accused Republicans of “sabotaging a good-faith bipartisan effort coming out of the Senate.”

Rep. Xavier Becerra (D-Calif.) said Republicans were on the verge of “shutting down the economy” as well as the government “simply because there’s a family feud” going on within their ranks........”

They believe they are royalty because they’re treated like royalty.

Sadly, if we survive to the next election and the republicans would somehow win the senate with the help of the tea party, the first thing the GOPe would do is set up co-hairs on all the committees.

I remember when Bush won and rino lot was giddy saying “We controll the house and the presidency.” He was told to knock it off.
