Skip to comments.House GOP drops ObamaCare’s medical-device tax from new bill, final cave looming

The most pitiful part of whats happening right now isnt the cave itself, which was predictable since day one of the quixotic defund effort, but the fact that theyre going to drag it out another day or two to the bitter end purely for theatrical purposes. Theres a 99 percent chance that Reid will reject whatever emerges tonight from the House, leaving Boehner to float a clean debt-ceiling hike tomorrow and let Pelosi and the Democrats bail him out, but in order to marginally reduce the upset among grassroots conservatives, hes going to push this to the last possible moment. ......
(snip) Now that the medical-device tax is out, the already weak House bill has even fewer ObamaCare-related demands in it than it did this morning.
(snip) Translation: The leaderships going to make one last stand tonight to show conservative voters that they really fought on this, even though what theyre now fighting for is worthless to everyone, and then inform House conservatives tomorrow that they have no choice but to pass some sort of clean debt-ceiling hike with Democratic help. Thats because whats possible within divided government was painfully apparent two weeks ago, but if Boehner had caved then instead of now, he would have been accused of not trying. So he went through the motions of trying, up to and including a shutdown, and now its time to do the responsible thing and not risk a new recession with a technical default. (Read the rest)

The GOP is the same as the DNC.
Both support al Qaeda.
Both support corruption.
Both support unConstitutional behavior.
Both support “laws” with THEM exempt.
Both support past child pimps running ObamaCARE/RomneyCARE.
Both ignored Benghazi and the Boston Atrocity coverups.
Both ignored the IRS and NSA atrocities.
So who is exactly ... surprised?
Guess that’ll make my next few voting days a bit freer.
Yeah, let’s give out medals to all for trying.
Yeah, that and all the grandstanding the Democrats are going to do after the rinos surrender will drive an even bigger wedge between them and the base. I can’t believe how inept these guys are.
The Great Capitulators.
Republicans are down six. 4th down on the 1 yard line with 3 seconds left in the game.
And republicans want to take a knee and end the game.
Whether they lose by 100 or by 1 point they will still be losers!
Boehner will let all the moderate, safe repukelicans vote for it with democrat help, then will say that leadership tried.
Every pub that crosses the aisle on this needs to be primaried and financially broken so if they get through the primary they are screwed against their rat opponent.
Then we put it back together from scratch.
An even bigger wedge?
Hello, this stunt by the usual surrendering leadership further ‘solidified’ the tea party = fringe meme.
These Republicans don’t do American football. They golf.
I wrote Boehner and begged him to hang tough on the few concessions he’s asking for. If you are not in his district there is a contact email at the bottom right of his page.
Failure is still failure. All the heaving and grunting and posturing doesn't mean squat if the job doesn't get done.
One thing I’m really concerned about is that allowing Obamacare to be implemented will certainly be a problem for the Democrats. However....they will patch it up as they go along and claim how much better they’re making it. They will play the PR game (and they do it well) and get the media to herald the New and Improved Obamacare 2.0. Mark my words.
And Republicans will lose again, like they always do.
Repeal of the medical device surtax would be a good thing, but not pertinent to the fight at hand. Pressure to remove it now is coming from lobbyists, and the Dems would gladly give it up as a “concession” to get the rest of what they want. The House GOP sees through that ploy as a diversion from the demands of its Conservative grass roots, and has stripped it out. The only acceptable compromise is delay of the mandate for the rest of Americans not already exempted by waivers. “Equal treatment under the law” should be a winning hand...
They just don’t play to win. Ever. Pathetic losers.
At least after this fiasco is over maybe we can get past the Republicans and move on to supprot something more constructive. It would be nice to root for a team that plays to win.
The French Wing of the Party speaks.
Pray America is Waking Up
Time for a new Speaker. House conservatives should be told to fire at will.
Reid J. Epstein @reidepstein
OFA rally on the Capitol steps
> Having hammered out a deal to shoot back to the Senate tonight — with most Republicans reportedly on board... Then the medical device tax delay was stripped out, and the “full Vitter Amendment” (no special treatment under Obamacare for Congress, staffers, and White House officials) was inserted in... opposed to stalling or repealing the tax as part of this deal... The delay would look like another favor to big business rather than the little guy... would take the issue off the table as a Democrat-dividing maneuver for future negotiations...
