I had heard that the word was used by the blue collar comedy radio show "Duffy's Tavern" as a joke; unfortunately, many didn't get it. The instructor of Legal Research and Writing at U of Missouri--Columbia's law school used it plenty in my first semester (1987). After I commented on it in the evaluations, she stopped using it.
