Cringeworthy, to be sure, but while I had a knock-down, drag-out fight with a grammar Nazi, also being one myself, I found out that it's
technically a word albeit improperly used nearly 100% of the time.
It's believed to be a contemporary portmanteau of 'irrespective' and 'regardless,' but it's still a double-negative and boils down to 'regarding.'
