Senator Says Shutdown Was a Complete Disaster for GOP
Semi-News/Semi-Satire ^ | 18 Oct 2013 | John Semmens

Posted on 10/19/2013 8:09:48 AM PDT by John Semmens

Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) called the recent 16-day partial shutdown of the federal government “one of the worse things to happen to this country in my lifetime. It pushed this country to the brink of financial default by almost forcing President Obama to make a choice between paying interest to our creditors or funding programs he deems vital for the future of our nation and the world.”

Where the GOP went wrong in Durban's opinion was “their notion that furloughing 800,000 nonessential government employees would go unnoticed. If President Obama had remained passive in the face of this crisis they might have pulled it off. However, by getting out in front and ensuring that access to open spaces that many take for granted would be interdicted, the President made sure that the shutdown would be widely felt.”

The Senator speculated that “Republicans will pay a heavy price in November of 2014. Voter outrage over the disrespect shown to veterans, the inconveniencing of tourists, and having to give back pay to workers idled by the shutdown will cost them at the polls.”

In related news, Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY) boasted that “we got everything we wanted. They got a 'fig leaf.'” The “fig leaf” was a provision requiring the government to verify Obamacare applicants' income before awarding them subsidies. “The verification process is totally under the Administration's control,” Schumer pointed out. “There's no way for the GOP to check the accuracy or even whether any verification took place.”

Poor little dick. While both my senators caved, McCain and Flake, (no surprise), my congressman stood strong. He will have my vote and support. My senators, I will support and vote for the most conservative primary candidate against them. Hopefully we will knock them off. There will be more conservatives in the house and senate after 2014 then there are now. And lil dick, once we get voter fraud under control you may be one of those leaving.

I just read the source. But it still sounds like the nonsense Durbin spouts.

Why do they always go to the rats to get information about the republican party?

The point Repubs need to hammer on constantly is that the Democrats will stop at nothing to get their way, as long as they can blame it on Republicans.

Barrycades at Nat'l parks and monuments were only a warmup, how about the lives of those children in the NIH cancer trials? Reid thought nothing of sacrificing them if he could pin it on the House Republicans.

With them in charge of everyone's healthcare, who do you think will be sacrificed if this situation ever comes up again?

I was completely cool with the shutdown. It was turning it back on that has me miffed. As for 2014 politics and polls, the colossal failure of Obamacare is stripping the clothes off of the emperor, and the sight will be too ugly for the leftist media to ignore.

The left guard that Durbin represents thinks the shutdown, combined with a media blitz on the zombie class, has somehow damaged the Republican Party beyond repair. He thinks that because he is close enough to McCain to breath in his farts, and he gets a thrill out of it.

Anyone know where the Democrats are hiding the two senators
that made controversial and truthful remarks about Obama care?
Max Baucus and Jay Rockefeller have had no air time and seem to have vanished after saying the health care law was a train wreck and incomprehensible? They voted for the darned thing and spoke out against it. Will Harry Reid release them from the back room soon?

I hear Richard “Dick” Dirtbag also reported that “millions” of people signed up for Obamacare. Oh, wait, no - that was the number of tweets about Miley Cyrus. An obvious mistake.

Durbin and Schumer- two of the most toxic in a nest full of vipers. Schumer even brags that they won’t live up to the deal they just made because the Republicans can’t verify it.

The “Shutdown” (actually just a Slowdown) was a disaster for the Senate GOP, as it exposed a majority of Republican senators as Benedict Arnolds, Phillipe Petains and Vidkun Quislings — traitors. On the other hand, it was a shot in the arm for House Conservatives, who learned how to fight. The next step is to replace the House leadership.
