Sunday morning on her MSNBC program Melissa Harris-Perry and guests discussed the new movie "12 Years A Slave," the story of Solomon Northup, who was born free, went to Washington D.C. to find more work in 1841, but was beaten, drugged and sold into slavery. In questioning one of her guests, Loyola University professor Laura Murphy, both host and guest discussed what they called the modern form of slavery, illegal immigration.
Melissa Harris-Perry: Laura I want to ask you very specifically, some of your new work is on people living in this moment. Who are born into what we understand as freedom and then experience slavery and are now writing what you call contemporary slave narratives. I just felt like it was worth pointing that out in this moment.
Laura Murphy: Yeah, I think that this particular version of the slave narrative, the 19th century slave narrative of Solomon Northup, is particularly enlightening for understanding modern slavery today. Because people are tricked the way he is. or convinced, coerced into a life that is, in fact, slavery, people who are forced to work, held under threat of violence without the ability to escape for the benefit of other people's financial stability, right.
Melissa Harris-Perry: We call it trafficking. But what it is-is slavery.
Laura Murphy: It's slavery. I think a lot of people doubt -- because we see people coming across the border to look for work and we say, oh, those folks are illegal immigrants. They chose to come here to work. So who's surprised they were exploited in this way? Or they chose to become sex workers. So who's surprised they would be exploited by pimps, right? But Solomon chose to go to D.C. to work. He had a legitimate cause to go there. Then he was tricked and drugged and taken into slavery. This is what's happening today for a lot of people....
Melissa Harris-Perry: Enslaved.
Comparing illegal immigration to slavery is an insult to the memory of those who suffered the horrors of slavery. American slaves were kidnapped from their homes in Africa and brought here in chains. They were forced to do arduous work without pay and suffered unspeakable horrors. American slaves were treated as property. There is no comparison to illegal immigration in virtually any way.
Melissa. You’re right. Let’s just BAN illegal immigration outright and HARD.
Let’s gently (forcefully, though) gather up these poor slave children and FREE them. Repatriate them back to their motherland.
END SLAVERY FOREVER!!!!
Insane to compare those who come of their own free will to those captured and forced into servitude. Not just insane but insulting to those who even today endure slavery.
Lots of slavery in the history of Africa. Of course, the only segment that Hollywood can focus on is the American slave trade that ended 150 years ago. This is necessary for Hollywood to continue the Institutionalized White Guilt Complex. The trans Atlantic slave trade lasted 350 years with 80 percent of the slaves going to the Caribbean and to Brazil. The USA took less than 20 percent.
The Arab enslavement of black Africans lasted over 1200 years with trans Sahara passage, and up the East coast of Africa from the massive slave port at Zanzibar. The Arab slavers also enslaved white Europeans for almost a thousand years with massive raids on the coasts of Italy, Spain, France and even as far north as Ireland.
In fact, there is another book written by an escaped slave, but the book written in 1693 by an white Englishman who escaped his Arab Slave masters will be ignored by the racist Cultural Marxists who control Hollywood. You cant impose white guilt on whites if the victim and hero of the story is white.
Yet there is a modern day sexual slavery that is common in America of a black pimp and a white sex slave that is also taboo with Hollywood. The racist brutality that the movie, 12 Years a Slave portrays is equaled in many respects in the brutal enslavement of white women by racist black pimps that is common in the USA today.

Flawed logic, illegals now seemingly have more rights and benefits than we do, plus freedom from payroll taxes. We citizens are more slaves than they are!
