Skip to comments.Rubio urges Obama to reconsider healthcare mandate delay - majority support in Senate
Posted on 10/25/2013 6:21:36 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) called on President Obama to reconsider delaying individual enrollment in ObamaCare now that it likely holds majority support in the Senate.
In a letter to the president sent Thursday, Rubio said the half dozen Senate Democrats who have come out in support of a delay gives the proposal enough support to pass with a bipartisan majority.
Given your own admission that the websites problems cannot be 'sugar-coated,' I believe my legislation rests on common-ground between us despite our differences over ObamaCare as a whole, and is therefore deserving of your support, he said.
In fact, six Democratic senators have already announced their support for delaying the mandate, giving such a measure enough votes to pass with bipartisan support.
Rubios legislation would delay the individual mandate for six months after the website begins functioning normally.

The Stupid Party ... supporting idiocy one mind at a time.
Rubio jealous of Cruz...
At this point, I do not personally want a delay for individuals. This is a law, per what the Democrats have maintained, and its impact should occur on schedule.
I want them tagged for the consequences and I want whatever individual dissatisfaction with it to be reflected in the 2014 Congressional and Senate Elections. I want THEM to be culpable and the target of whatever voter ire that is generated between now and then.
That said, it is duplicitous for Rubio to hawk for this in the midst of his campaign to simultaneously support immigration reform that is not needed.
“I voted for the bill before”....well you know. I’m sure the voters will buy this latest Dem bull in 2014.
Rudio coming out for a position, which does not include illegal aliens?
Marco is always off the mark. Don’t delay it. Repeal it. A delay will only mask the bigger problems with Obamacare.
Put the bill to repeal it back in front of that cretin Hairy Reid. This will reinforce to the people who is really behind this mess. Let the dems who are afraid and up for reelection have to vote against repeal in a public way!
I think he just want to have Obama refuse.
And how does that refusal look to the American people watching this thing blow up in their faces as they’re kicked off their health insurance?
You forgot “choke on it”.
I have been writing to my senators and representative telling them exactly that.
They need to hear a LOT of us saying it.
It is NO SUCH THING... and just once, I'd love to see a Conservative remind these clowns that the ACA was an outright sham from beginning to end...a perfect anomaly which has bastardized the requisite protocols and made a mockery of the entire political process in America.
‘DELAY’ Really??? This is like asking to delay of a capital crime...it's STILL a crime!!
Indeed—Where was he during the shutdown?
The Democrats own this...let them!!
Agreed! I recall being eviscerated when I got pissed about the House starting to negotiate against itself when they went from completely defund to delay. I said they would fully cave eventually. According to some, I didn't understand the issue. I wasn't paying attention. This is a good thing. They won't cave.....
All republicans should now take the position, "We offered delay as a compromise once. Now that 'we know what's in it', we will stand on repeal or nothing."
This will obviously never happen.
Rubio rides to the rescue of Obamacare... Rubio, your so erudite, so nuanced in your calculations, soo MCCain-esque... sooo Senate-like, you can expect to get PRIMARIED!!
This is a gem of an idea.
Cruz and Co. took the lead on asking for a delay and having Congress suffer under Obamacare too - and Cruz has been proven right, so this would be the next logical step - - and THIS time it would be harder to say it's stupid and could never happen.
Let's watch the Dems vote to keep themselves off this system, while forcing their constituents on it (we would win some more seats in 2014 -- and since universal healthcare is their socialist dream, they will dig in their heels - - - America will mobilize in 2016 and we could take all 3 branches of government.
What’s up with any member of Congress “urging” the president to do anything? He’s not the king and he can’t change laws on his word alone.
Any bill dealing with this mess has to have the Vitter bill attached to it
Tea Party ad. Where are the GOP ads????
:):) Great stuff!
Rubio was with Cruz and Lee, in total support of Cruz's 21 hours. If only Rubio could be educated about how the rest of the country feels about letting invaders stay in the US, he's okay. He didn't go over to Darth McCain Vaders dark side, as did Jeff Flake and Kelly Ayotte, for example.
Put the delay out there now. It's a lose-lose for Obama. If he goes along with the delay, the question is why did the government shut down, and Cruz and the conservatives win. If he doesn't go along with it, the attitude about Obama's arrogance and Obamacare keeps getting worse for him. Either way, McCain and the other saboteurs become part of the problem (as they were with Syria warmongering)
With the delay, the next step would be to bring up legislation ending the mandate. The dems would have to run on refusing that or vote to end the mandate. The other possible legislation would be for a health insurance plan that is optional and only covers catastrophic illnesses, and that with a deductible the consumer chooses.
That way, we could get rid of ObamaCare (first priority), replace the RINOs with conservatives (second priority) and get a lot more conservatives in the US Senate and HOR.
If we don't stop Obamacare and Obama's agenda, nothing else matters....the US will be done anyway.
Sort of how I’m thinking....
See post #18.
Rubio just cemented his Collaborator status with this latest stunt.
I agree. Remember all that noise the libs gave in the runup to and during the shutdown? "The ACA is settled law, was passed by both houses of Congress, signed by the White House and confirmed by the Supreme Court."
So NO... NO delays of any kind. They wanted this crap sandwich and force-fed it to everyone else. Digestion has occurred and it's now coming out the other end. It'll now be formed into large, heavy, smelly millstones which will be chained to the necks of EVERY SINGLE DEMOCRAT next year. They pushed it... they voted for it... and now that it's gone to hell, they want to change it? Oh, HELL no!!!!
FUMR! I will never, ever vote for a RINO POS such as yourself!
This man learned from Mitch McConnell and McCain on how to reach across the aisle!
DITTO! "Settled law," and all that sh!t. Those damned people need to suffer painfully for this.
How about instead of begging the Emperor for a few crumbs, Congress take it’s power back & show him that he isn’t a dictator after all?
My guess is that whatever applicants they are receiving are the entitlement class that doesn’t have anything in this game but a need and a vote. Other, older ‘citizens’ are those forced out of their current plans who are shocked at the real increases and decreased coverage they are quoted.
Who they are actually counting on are young singles who have no health issues and the ability to be divested of their money because they are just plain stupid. These people aren’t applying.
My guess is that Osama and team have finally figured out they can’t dictate a forced choice under this law. I expect a complete revelation and declaration that single payer is the only option now.
God help us if these RINOs in the House of Representatives relent between now and 2014 until the groundswell can oust even more Democrats.
I'd say based on past experience with the feral government, that the website is "functioning normally".
If Obama does this by not vetoing a bill, I’m OK with it. But, I think he’ll instruct Harry Reid to block such a bill. He would prefer to delay by edict, further establishing the precedent of governing and changing laws by order.
I think he’s gambling the “best and brightest” can fix what the “best and blackest” couldn’t design right soon enough that he won’t have to do that; we’ll know in a month or two.
That's a great hope. Bet remember what happened the last time we owned all three branches of Government? It caused Obama.
Shut up Rubio.
Well, Marco, half the GOP senators won’t side with you!
