Washington (CNN) - President Obama paid a visit Friday to a group of activists who have been fasting for weeks in the hopes of pressuring Congress to pass new immigration laws.
The President and his wife, First Lady Michelle Obama, visited the group on the National Mall to lend support for the cause. The "Fast for Families" protesters have given up all sustenance except water during their protest, which they hope will force lawmakers to take up immigration reform measures pending on Capitol Hill.During his visit, Obama said he appreciated the attention the protesters were bringing to the issue, and that he was optimistic immigration reform could pass.
The President has pushed for an overhaul to the nation's immigration system, most recently during a speech in San Francisco on Monday. He praised the fasting protesters during those remarks, saying the group was "sacrificing themselves in an effort to get Congress to act."
"I want them to know we hear you. We're with you. The whole country hears you," Obama said during his remarks in California.
Other top White House officials, including Vice President Joe Biden, chief of staff Denis McDonough and senior adviser Valerie Jarrett have also dropped in on the group in the last week.

Why can’t they follow the same rules all others do to enter the country legally?
What is there to really reform outside of enforcing the border and banishing all access to the social hand outs for them and the children they had here to access the system.
Can we send their country of origin a bill, is that the reform they would like?
What exactly is “fasting?” Is it not eating between meals? If these people had any balls, they would go on a true hunger strike. No food, just water. Let’s see how long they would last.
Another staged event. Probably not even fasting, but the Marxist Media will make them look like saints.

Has ANYBODY ever explained what is wrong with the current immigration laws, why they don’t work, and the need for “reform”? Other, of course, than the need of Democrats to put 20 million new registered Dems on the voter rolls. The current system works just fine. Get a number, get a sponsor, wait X years, and get a green card. Work hard and get naturalized. It’s not a big deal for those who play by the rules.

My thoughts exactly when I read the headline - a staged event. Like any of us care about those idiots fasting for immigration reform. Geez, there is nothing else going important going on in this country except to give illegals - legal status. I have to bite my tongue with my true feelings for this POS and his POS wife.
Stupid people-will some smart people please go there and start yelling “there is no free lunch”, and throwing change at them at them, till they get tired of it? If someone wants to immigrate to this country, they need to show initiative by getting a sponsor, applying to come here, etc-howling and threatening to starve does not count as initianitive...Can these idiots be dragged off onto the sidewalk, like they do with a lot of occupiers?
Somehow, the vision of protesters fasting on the national mall doesn’t make me sympathetic-if they’ve been really, hard core fasting “for weeks”, they should be down to skin and bones by now, except for the ones who were elephant sized. And I doubt anyone would be allowed to starve out there, no matter how stupid their “cause” was...
anything for a diversion from the ObamaCare fiasco.
Vets in wheelchairs are met by armed guards, but illegal invaders are allowed to camp out on the Mall and get an adoring visit from POTUS.
