Fox News Channel maintained its grip on the cable-news network ratings prize in 2013, drawing more viewers than the combined averages of CNN, MSNBC and HLN.

It was a down year in terms of overall audience, as every newsie but HLN showed primetime declines from their Presidential Election-driven tallies of 2012.

According to Nielsen data through Dec. 8, Fox News Channel averaged 1.774 million viewers in primetime (down 13% from 2012) and 297,000 adults 25-54 (down 30%). It was followed by MSNBC with 645,000 viewers and 203,000 adults 25-54 (down 29% in both); CNN with 578,000 (down 15%) and 187,000 adults 25-54 (down 16%); and HLN with 403,000 total viewer (up 21%) and 142,000 in the demo (up 27%).

I have always loved that FOX outranks all the Communist networks, combined.

Huh. I thought I read just yesterday that a George Soros funded media group said that FOX had been neutralized. Lol!

How far CNN has fallen! They were once the only game in town. They went so far left and allowed Fox to enter the scene and stake out the middle to right ground.

IMO, CNN still does a good job on big, breaking stories and also has the international scene better covered than Fox. But CNN’s daily line up is awful.

Fox News has taken a marked swing to the left in recent years. Kucinich, Woodward, Juan Williams, Geraldo et al, along with dumping Hannity.

The only way one of those others have a chance of improving their ratings and to take a real bite out of Fox is to become more conservative than Fox. But, then again, they’re not that smart.

There’s a bit of a cloud with the silver lining.

While we may cheer the implosion of CNN and MSNBC, their old-line, big-three network brethren are still on the air and, in the minds of many, considered ‘respectable.’

Liberal madness is stored under great pressure; as it loses its cable outlets it will vent somewhere else. Obviously the network news broadcasts and magazine shows are longtime deliverers of Orwellian rubbish but as those ratings also decline the lefties are resorting to overt, often awkward insertions of their politics in so-called entertainment shows. Bob Costas giving a schoolmarm lecture to gun-owning, NFL-watching audience is one obvious example but even scripted dramas are rife with political slant. Despite post-modern anti-heroes and 21st century hard-bitten cynicism, the subtext rarely changes: patriotism = pro-government.

Would a Fox sports host interrupt ‘Glee’ to point out that unprotected sex between homosexual men is by far the most significant transmission vector for HIV? Doubtful.

I think the 13% decline for fox comes from people like me who have noticed their surge to the left.

I remember when I would call my cable company a few times a week asking when they would add FOX news, they began to do so but you needed to purchase a higher cable package, then they submitted to providing it in the basic package, those where the good old days for FOX, we need a knew competitor to challenge FOX.

BTW I miss nothing by not watching FOX.

I wonder why CNN doesn’t move Tapper to the evenings, since he’s by far the best they have. I bet he could make a dent on O’Reilly or Kelly’s ratings.

RE “The newest program, “The Kelly File” with Megyn Kelly, has improved the 9 p.m. hour by 23% in total viewers and 13% in adults 25-54, ...”

Definitely an improvement over Hannity.

She was doing great until she did that dumb 'Santa is white' segment. She couldnt find anything better to report and debate on than that?

RE :”I like Hannity. Greta and Bill - not so much.”

I usually find Hannity annoying.
His voice is whiny and he doesn't seem very bright, like he repeats what others say but he doesn't really understand it.

Fortunately for him Obamacare is a such a easy target not even he can miss it.

I like when he gathers together the FNC babes into a make believe town hall meeting and asks them questions. That is entertaining.
