Bill Would Require State Approval to Homeschool
Semi-News/Semi-Satire ^ | 20 Dec 2013 | John Semmens

Posted on 12/21/2013 7:58:05 AM PST by John Semmens

Ohio State Senator Capri Cafaro (D-Hubbard) has introduced legislation to boost state regulation of homeschooling. Senate Bill 248 would require that parents be investigated and approved before being allowed to homeschool their children.

“The very fact that parents would want to deny their children the enriching experience of a public school education raises a ‘red flag,’” Cafaro declared. “It makes one wonder what other risks of neglect or abuse might be present in the home environment. Rather than supinely wait for tragedies to occur it is incumbent upon the government to intercede ahead of time.”

Cafaro hypothesized that “overt signs of excessive religious fervor, gun ownership, or the presence of books and magazines that denigrate progressive values and undermine loyalty to and faith in the efforts of the government to better people’s lives would demonstrate an anti-social environment that is unfit for children.”

The Senator acknowledged that “there are likely too many anti-social home environments for us to take the most appropriate remedy of removing the afflicted children. We should at least insist that the children attend public schools as a way of counterbalancing these pernicious influences on their education and development.”

Sorry John, this one seems to miss the mark.

The phrase they used was “in the best interest of the child.” Your rephrasing of it actually means the same thing.

There is no satire here, if you want to homeschool your children, you will be investigated to be sure it is in the best interest of the child.

HOW DARE the people to think that in the safety of the home, close to a loving mom, and a disciplined father, they could gain self esteem. Don´t the homeschoolers know that in the U.S. Classrooms they might have adventure of a gun shooting, learn the agendas that the STATE force feeds upon it´s ignorant subjects. They won´t learn tattooing, porno texting, bullying. HOW DARE THEY teach kids at home. This MUST stopped. At least after all of our jails are full, and we realize that maybe it would have been better psychologically for them to learn from loving parents rather than greedy labor unionists who passion for the position is strictly in making money.

I love that:"The enriching experience of public school"

Oh snap - just read it was satire. But then again. I bet. It also would be another way to get tax money. Have to pay a fee for a certificate you have to hang on the wall to be able to home school. I was. Had interaction at the local school but academically, home schooled.

John; I use satire to forawrd an activity conservatives should be doing but are “too a-scared” to do as in
http://www.theusmat.com/natldesksatire.htm. This comes too close what the left is going to do. Stop giving them ideas.

Senate Bill 248 would require that parents be investigated and approved before being allowed to homeschool their children.

One of Ohio State Senator Capri Cafaro's Republican colleagues should introduce a bill that would require that each school be investigated and approved before being allowed to educate any student. Check their attendance records, their current student's performance statistics, their record of violence within the school and the records of all teachers and their qualifications.

Tit for tat. I'm sure the schools will not match the same standings as most parents who are considering homeschooling.

I am glad all other problems have been solved, so that he has time to go after parents who don’t do what The State wants them to do.

All Hail The State

Update, the firestorm of controversy about this bill has lead to it’s withdrawal.

I applaud your satire. It is truly artful.

However events have overtaken it. The everyday absurdity of modern ‘progressivism’ is now immune to satire.

This morning’s satirical chuckle is this evening’s headline.

Sounds like another Democrat who would fit well into the gestapo-like political mold still popular in Germany. Perhaps he should be soundly defeated next election so he can immigrate.

I like the explanation the senator gave for withdrawing the bill, “after consultation with Teddy’s family,”

Um, wouldn’t that be the same family that enabled and concealed the abuse? Did the senator’s consultation occur over a phone handset through a thick piece of Plexiglass? What else was discussed? “Hey can you get me a carton of cigarettes? They’re like GOLD in here!”

Probably a temporary retreat. Homeschooling is illegal in Germany. I’m sure US liberals envy that rule.
