They’ve created a system which is unsecure and is easily abused to steal money and ruin peoples lives.

I've had two known cases of identity theft occur against me. In the last case, someone opened a cell phone account in Philadelphia using my name and SS number (I live in CA). I've received notices from two former employers and the VA that my personal info(along with hundreds or thousands of others) may have been compromised. Even with vigilance, there is no way to safeguard your personal data.

But, other than some legal shenanigans to show that the phone account couldn't be mine, I've been spared any real damage. I believe the reason for that is that my credit score is horrible - not because I've misbehaved, but because I'VE NEVER HAD A CREDIT CARD OR BOUGHT ANYTHING ON CREDIT with one minor exception when I was young. Thus, I have a low credit score, and a false cell phone account is about the biggest thing that identity thieves could squeeze out of my low rating, heh. My reaction to that was to have my credit record frozen because, hey, I don't use credit anyway. If I could have my entire credit report wiped and just a big e-notice to any vendor not to give credit to me, that would be fine.

I've always looked at debt as a form of slavery. I honestly can't imagine living on credit cards and loans the way a lot of people have.

The Obamacare sign up site is apparently verifying your identity through the Equifax system. My father has followed Dave Ramsey’s principles for years, with no debt after the mortgage was paid off decades ago.
He couldn’t sign up because his credit report was blank, -—. No credit history for his SSN, so no proof he’s a person. He actually tried to sign up and failed because of this.
So the refusal to have a credit card and use mostly cash to protect from identity theft and avoid debt meant he couldn’t sign up on the exchanges.
