Its okay, the 1 percent only pays 41 percent of Californias income taxes. And half the state pays no income tax at all. No one will even notice theyre gone.
Prop. 30, approved by voters in November 2012, raised state income taxes retroactively to Jan. 1, 2012, on singles making more than $250,000 and married couples making $500,000. It raised rates by one, two or three percentage points through 2018, bringing the top rate on incomes above $1 million to 13.3 percent, the highest in the nation.
Bryan Goldberg, who founded the Bleacher Report sports website and sold it to Turner Broadcasting for about $200 million in mid-2012, is moving his primary residence from San Francisco to New York this year. A major reason, he says, is Prop. 30 and the way it was applied retroactively.

Thanks Beave Meister.
It’s absolutely despicable that bottom-feeding freeloaders who don’t pay a penny in taxes can vote to force those who bust their asses going to work everyday should pay more taxes. Those people aren’t Americans. They’re lowlife commie scum.
Well, it is probably not the weather. Even though we all know Global Warming will kill us all......still thinking...
The mystery is why I am still here.
89% of the people voted to over tax the top 11% who are of course the big tax payers in the state. I moved out last July.
Maybe they should build a wall or something
Can’t possibly be the big donkey in the room.
Californya, It truly is the land of nuts and fruits.
Maybe it’s all that radiation flowing in.
What a dimwit
Don’t like the heat in Texas?
Well, with all the Texas-bashing you’ve done over the years.. stay there.
You are welcome here in Texas. Just don’t bring any of your socialist ideas or notions with you.
I love Texas, I used to live there. I "bash" its liberal governor and faux conservatives like you who defend him.
There is NOBODY who pays not a penny in taxes...there are taxes on your drinks, cell phone bill, utility bill, tires, etc...
We should go back to only property owners are allowed to vote because the freeloaders will vote to raise taxes on everyone every time so they can ride the freebie wave at the beach.Freeloaders have no skin in the game!
Faux conservatives like me.
If I search your posting history, will I expect to find any support of Sarah Palin or Ted Cruz?
If you’re one of the freeloaders not to worry. Your welfare check is grossed up to cover those annoying little taxes. The freeloaders are reimbursed for the taxes they inadvertently pay.
That's democracy for you. Two wolves and a sheep voting what's for dinner.
I have a friend who owns a business in California.
I have quietly stopped buying things he sells as I don’t want to support the government there through his income taxes.
Unfortunately he is pretty far left politically he doesn’t see what is happening to him and his family.
Well, 72 and sunny today. Redwoods and hiking in backcountry parts of Santa Clara only 15 minutes up the road. Beach is an hour away. Spectacular snow skiing 5 hours away as is Yosemite. Fresh fruit and vegetables year round.
There are downsides, of course. We are entering Year 3 of severe drought, all the hills are parched, the reservoirs are empty, and it looks like we are going to have to learn Chinese because of all the money and buyers gushing in from Beijing, Taipei, and Hong Kong.
Methinks Mr. Goldberg is in for a rude awakening. I suggest he do a simple background check on the newly minted mayor, and what he plans for the ‘rich’ who reside in the Big Apple. And if Bryan intends on escaping to upstate NY, Gov Cuomo is a card carrying nazi as well.
Wow. You really are reaching new levels of stupid. I was critical of Palin for endorsing your liberal governor and for endorsing RINO John McCain. But I agree with her and Cruz on most issues. In fact, I am a big supporter of Cruz. I was 100% behind Ted when your fellow La Raza Rick supporters were behind Dewhurst. And, unlike you, your search will not find no history of me ever having defended fraudulent conservative politicians like Perry or defending his history of pro-ILLEGAL alien policies, nor will it find that I have ever bashed Texas. I have criticized its liberal leaders and liberals like you who defend them.
85 here today. Same yesterday. But with the high taxes, high cost of living, surrounded by liberal kooks and the fact that the state is run by tax and spend liberals, the bad by far outweighs the good the good weather.
Methinks thee doth protest too much.
Stay in CA.
lol! I’m not protesting at all. I merely pointed out the false nature of your accusations. From bashing the state of Texas to not supporting Palin or Cruz, I have proved you wrong on every count. If you possessed even a scintilla of common sense you would realize that.
Now me REALLY thinks thee doth protest too much.
(an obsequious pseudo-zen answer that should satisfy most CA libs)
I escaped to Arizona in July. I’m in OC this week on business, there isn’t a thing I miss about it. Can’t wait to go home.
What you "think" is what makes you a joke.
You obviously feel compelled to get the last word, even if it means repeating yourself. I have no interest in that, so have at it. I won't be reading it or responding to it. I've proved you wrong and that's good enough for me.
South, you have a thinking problem. Stay in CALIFORNIA.
I’ll go wherever I damned well please. If that bothers you, good.
not much of a break if you move from CA to NYC.
how about if you actually pay income taxes, only then you get to vote. go back to having to have some skin in the game.
And to think just 30 years ago California was truly the golden state and an economic powerhouse in its own right. Now it’s turning into a third world craphole with the producers leaving in a hurry and idiot legislators in Sacramento spending the state into oblivion. Everything the left touches it turns to garbage. California is a true blue state and because of that it is a true blue economic catastrophe.
78 here further south in CA...Flowers blooming and the vegetable garden and Orange trees are doing quite well..Growing food year round, wearing shorts and BBQing and playing golf in the dead of winter and year round, has it's pluses...Not to mention the salt and fresh water fishing, the mountains, beaches and desert and a whole lot of stuff to do, are all within an hour or so.
Living behind enemy lines has many great points. In fact those points are worth a small fortune to us.
I guess he’ll need some Texas Hospitality lessons.
Always an unhinged guy. A Shreiker, not a thinker.
Decidedly not a likely contributor to our Great State.
California is a beautiful state. I imagine it would be hard to leave.
It is a pity; it used to be a conservative state.
Hey, it's a pity the U.S. used to be home to a united people and our borders were secure and government didn't want to control literally everything you did...
Of course the ugly reality is nothing stays the same, regardless of where ya live. Including where you live.
Yes, you can grow your own fruits and vegetables here. I live on 3.5 acres and grow everything from avocados to citrus to grapes to olives. But I know I could live far better elsewhere where I'm not being taxed to death to pay for the latest California leftist's handouts to ILLEGAls and other vermin who are milking the taxpayer dry. That small fortune you mentioned is growing faster than you may think.
Hey, everyone is free to hit the freeway and head eastbound.
I understand for years now liberals are leaving and infesting other states...I’ve seen the complaints here for years now.
I say the more that leave the better and hope the trend continues.
BTW and the exact same is happening in D.C. with your fed gov and in many other states...I personally no longer trust anyone in government, regardless of party.
And remember politics is cyclical...Maybe things will turn around for CA and the rest of America politically. Who knows...
I own property in Idaho. I've owned it since the early 90s. I visit there often but have yet to talk myself into moving there and taking the chance on being so far from my business. I have recently thought about selling what it took me 35-years to create. That's a hard decision, though.
Ya gotta do what ya gotta do.
BTW, a good percentage of those rich folk are leftist liberal folk with big dollars...
Idaho is nice, but way too cold from me...And as ya get older, the cold bites down really hard.
The property is near Coeur d’Alene. It gets cold there but doesn’t get that much snow. I’ve spent many a winter there. I can handle it. Now if I could just convince the wife to go. She likes it too, as a place to visit, but her roots are in San Diego.
And ya do have a point. I know some hard core leftist idiots with bucks who run big biz, and some of them are even turning on their boy Obama. He’s clearly a disaster, and most of them know it...Some are even admitting it.
Again...Who knows what the next 5 or so years have in store for CA and the rest. I’m not real confident things will turn around by traditional means...But hopefully it will.
