Show me some evidence that the South had any resources or skilled artisans to build ships. :-)

They started building them during the war, why not 33 years earlier, could've saved 600,000 lives according to your theory.

Yes, I do. But, you do realize, I assume, that slavery — evil that it was and still is — was legal in the United States up until 1865. That being said, I would have vigorously opposed another country invading us to abolish slavery.

The south made the mistake of attacking Sumter, lost their slavery as a result. No one invaded to get rid of slavery, it was a fringe benefit of the war.

So, I reply again, ....is your knowledge limited to the 1850s? What happened in 1859-61 regarding the tariffs? Do you actually think that they stayed the same as the 1850s?

It doesn't matter what happened after secession. So you tell me, what was the big event regarding tariffs in 1859/1860?

The only reason the Morrill tariff passed in 1861 was because there were no southern congressmen left to oppose it, their states had already seceded. The Morrill tariff would not have passed without secession.

So true. Them SC hot heads just couldn’t keep their powder dry. As a Virginian, I understand the war of Northern Agression, even though we shot first. ;D

They don’t teach you about that until 10th grade. :-)

You are spitting out false points.

1.”Was the south taxed or tariffed(sic)?...No they weren't.”

False point. No one said that.

2.”They opposed the high tariff on foreign goods and got their way to have it lowered in the 1850s.”

What happened to the tariff in the 1850s had no bearing on the decisions of 1860. Another red herring.

3. “It doesn't matter what happened after secession.”

Red herring and not a point made by anyone here except yourself in response to an imaginary assertion...straw man argument.

Are you trying to be irascible or just spouting canards?

4.” The only reason the Morrill tariff passed in 1861 was because there were no southern congressmen left to oppose it.”

Distinction without meaning.

5. “The Morrill tariff would not have passed without secession.”

So, then why did you bring it up?

Pea Ridge do you think we will still have to suffer these idiots after the next secession? My guess is at that point they will be frothing at the mouth because there won’t be any slavery to blame it on. It’ll just be racism typed from their parents basement in Brooklyn. LOL!!!

“No one invaded to get rid of slavery....”

You’re right. They invaded because a petulant little man threw a hissy fit because he saw his revenues disappearing before his very eyes. It was only later, to score political points, and to create an excuse and justification for starting a bloody war, so he’d look good to posterity and historians, that that same petulant little man decided that the invasion was, after all, to free the slaves.

Lincoln was a fraud.

Well Pea I’ll let you carry on the fight with the juvies. I’m getting bored with them and I’ve got slaves to whip and cotton to ship up North to the Yankees. Gotta keep the revenue flowing in for ole Abe. :-)

It settled the issue of secession. No state has the right to secede from the union. Once in, always in.
